It's our little journey, with the Tension M6, on Germany's Autobahns and a race against the clock.
From Flensburg in the north to Kufstein in the south, 1067 kilometers in all.
We get started on Autobahn A7 at the German Danish border. Nothing like accelerating in the night with 552 horsepower. A race, if you can call it that, that remains attuned to and within Germany's normal traffic regulations.
Three lanes of dry German highway allow the ten cylinder coupe to reach beyond the 300 click mark. And then the City of Hamburg and the approach to the Elbe tunnel. The speed limit here 80 kilometers per hour. The average speed however is still amazing.
In front of us lies the flat well paved three lanes that take us to Hanover. After midnight, the traffic along this stretch becomes increasingly lighter.
A few speed limits cost us some time and has an effect on the overall average speed, but the Tension is capable of achieving incredible speeds on the open road.
Here we approach a road construction site near Soltau. We do respect the speed limits, road safety is essential especially in higher performance vehicles. Just before reaching Hanover, we already have a third of the stretch behind this.
The end of the purely flat stretches are in sight, marked by the outline of the rapidly approaching Harz mountains. A tanking stop for the Tension, or simply a little breather for man and machine. Here at the rest station Harz's west is where we change drivers.
Our average speed is still above the 200 kilometer per hour mark, achieved in general traffic conditions on Germany's Autobahns. In front of us, lie the Carlshaushöhe mountains, it's uphill from here. No mountain along the A7 is unimpressed with the torque strength of the Tension.
The city of Kassel now approaches, which means watch the speed limit again. Slowly, we reach the halfway point of our journey. Just past Wurzburg, the Autobahn A3 leads us further south in the direction of Nurnberg as the wee hour traffic becomes increasingly heavier.
Every open stretch of Autobahn becomes an acceleration ramp for the sport's coupe, where Zafffen hits top speeds of 330 kilometers per hour.
Traveling without luxuries, without the Tension's high performance breaking systems, speeds of 300 kilometers per hour and more would be unimaginable.
The grand finale of this incredible journey lies just pass the Munich Autobahn ring.
Eschenbach a breaking zone for the tension. Here the speed limit slows down to 100 and even 80 kilometers per hour.
The home stretch lies just past the Intel triangle with the ops stretching out before us. At the Autobahn exit [Indiscernible] after exactly 1,067 kilometers is where our high speed journey through Germany comes to an end, and made for a very short night.
