To showcase Texan culture, the National Cowgirl Museum in Forth Worth honors women of the American West who have distinguished themselves while exemplifying the pioneer spirit. The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is the only museum in the world dedicated to honoring women of the American West who have displayed extraordinary courage.
Nationally known for its exhibits, research library and honorees in its hall of fame, the museum features interactive exhibits fascinating artifacts, a traveling exhibit gallery and a wild west show themed gift store. In the awesome grand rotunda, you can learn about the trail blazing women in the Cowgirl Museum Hall of Fame.
The Modern Art Museum of Forth Worth is located in the city’s cultural district. Though modern as it is often called currently contains over 2,600 works of post World War II art. Founded in 1892, it is the oldest art museum in Texas. The Kimbell Art Museum is known as America’s best small museum designed by American Architect Louis Kahn. The museum has won wide acclaim for its classic-modern building since it opened in 1972. Kahn’s innovative use of natural light and subtle articulation of space and material greatly enhances the experience of the art. The museum offers a world class collection of art with masterpiece from antiquity to the 20th century including works by Al Grecco, Suzanne, Picasso and Maltese. The Kimbell Art Institute Building is a series of parallel barrel vaults and displays and exterior water feature along with various paths and gardens on the ground.
The Sid Richardson Museum is located downtown in Sundance Square. It has a wonderful collection featuring the incredible works of two of the most celebrated artists of the American west, Frederick Remington and Charles M. Russel. The legacy of the late oil man and philanthropist Sid Williams Richardson were acquired by him from 1942 until his death in 1959.
