One of the most complex children’s toys in history, there’s a lot more to the transformer robots than simply being able to transform. Hey welcome to watchmojo.com, I’m your host Derek Allan and today we’ll be taking a look at some of the most interesting technologies introduced to the transformer franchise throughout the years. The most obvious and basic technology for transformer robots, both Autobot and Decepticon is their ability to transform between different forms.
The natural state for most is a robot of human likeness, each with an original personality and a specific object that they can transform into. Usually this is a vehicle like the semi truck, sports car or jet aircraft. However some posses the ability to transform into more inconspicuous items such as a gun or boom box. Throughout the franchises history, interesting new technologies have been features. One such development is the ability for a sub group of Transformers to combine their bodies and minds into a larger and more powerful singular robot. These Transformers are referred to as combiners. The first appearance of this abilities was by the Constructicon’s, when combined into their larger form, they created Devastator. A massive robot who’s sole purpose is to destroy whatever gets in its way. Despite each of the individual robots being adequately intelligent, their combined form of Devastator is characterized by being simple minded and reacting quickly to situations.
This consequence of the Combiner technology is explained by the fact that the larger robot can only do what is agreed upon by all of the robots involved. Often making it very narrow minded, a technology known as the master process allowed the alien nebulon’s or eventually even humans to become a component of a transformer. Different forms of this technology exist, one of which being named the headmasters group. While not explained in details the basic premise is that through a cybernetic suite, the organism shares a telepathic length with the given transformer while connected, the transformer and the organism work together through a single shared mind. Once separated, both the transformer and the organism function normally, however a permanent bond always exist between their minds to a certain extent.
Along with this other advancements, Transformers have also evolved to incorporate organic material into their various forms. Their pretenders were another sub set of Transformers who have been graced with the ability to use organic shells as a disguise or defense mechanism. Because of their unfamiliarity with organic matter, some Transformers have developed a fear of organics and others look upon the process as a form of contamination. Obviously because of the complex and long history of the Transformers and their home planet of Cybertron, this technologies and advancements are just scratching the surface. Without doubt in the years to come fans should expect newer and even more impressive developments in the evolution of the Transformers franchise.
