Yo oho! Welcome back to the show! Does this seem like dieting has become like a trip to Vegas? As you go to the bookstore and you are looking for a diet book and there is like 200 different ones there that say something completely different from each other. You kind of feel like you roll on the dice hoping that you pick the right one, or you have a friend who goes on a particular diet and they lose all this weight, they just hit the jackpot and you go on the same diet and follow it to a routine and gain weight. Now what's up with that? Why can't there be just like a one size fits all diet. It will be so awesome if there could be but there is just not, alright?
One of the questions that I get the most often is, Sean what do you eat? You are always telling us what we shouldn't eat but can you send me like a meal plan, could you tell me exactly what you eat so I could follow it? But I can't do that. I always respond by saying that would be impossible for me to do because if I did, I would be guessing that you have the same metabolic type as I do, because what works right for me may not work right for you. Our metabolic types may not match.
There is different types of metabolic types. You have got protein type, which is me, a primarily protein fat and so little bit of carbohydrates. There is the carbohydrate type which feeds the exact opposite of the way I do and then there is the mix type. So if I gave my diet to you and you are a carbohydrate type, you would fail, and you are looking at me, Oh! I am gaining weight. Alright?
Now you need to figure out what your metabolic type is. If you don't, then basically you are guessing and my pal Chuck says, if you are not accessing then you are guessing. If I can't access someone first, I can't really offer any particulars about their diet. I can do what I do with you right now, I can give you the universals, the things that are kind of across-the-board, good for everybody, get rid of the sugar, get rid of the trans fats, drink better water, reduce the alcohol consumption. Those work well across the board, but as far as telling you exactly which foods to eat and in which proportions to eat them, I can't do that without knowing your type.
Metabolic type is something that, wow! I believe in so much that I have made it my job. It works, which is the bottom line, and people absolutely love it because it cuts out the guessing. Now how do I come upon all this? I have been a trainer for like ten years, I have been studying nutrition for ten years and after I failed miserably with that university type Food Guide Pyramid or as I call it the Feed Lot Pyramid thing.
I started to read different diet books and I tired different diets with my client, we tried Atkins and Pritikin, South Beach, I mean you name the diet, I tried it with people and I noticed that my results were very variable. Some people would respond while other people wouldn't to the same diet. Then I came upon the work of Weston Price and I have mentioned him a few times here. He was the writer or the author of the book 'Nutrition and Physical Degeneration'. He visited and he studied indigenous populations who haven't been exposed to processed foods like sugar, flour, pasteurized milk and table salt.
In the intro to this video, you see those healthy people that he visited and one thing that he looked out was that people from different regions of the world ate different foods. You had some who had a very Atkins diet, lots of protein, lots of fat, just a little bit of vegetables. You had some who ate lots of vegetables and just a little bit of protein and fat, but they exhibited splendid health, no heart disease, no obesity, no cancer, no arthritis, no dental problems, no toothbrushes. That's why they are all smiling in the pictures because you wanted to look to their dentition as Weston Price was a dentist.
So then I saw it just occurred to me that maybe there is some ancestral genetic heritage type of link to the way that we are supposed to eat. So from there I stumbled upon the 'Metabolic Typing Diet' book and this was the absolute godsend. It is by William Wolcott and his idea, his thesis is that we all have different biochemical individuality, none of us are the same. We respond differently to different foods.
You can probably already tell what your metabolic type is actually, it's the foods that make you feel good. When you have a meal and you feel bad, you didn't eat right for your metabolic type. When you eat a particular food and it energies you and you feel good, that's what your metabolic type is typically. I get a lot of clients. People will say, man I was in my Atkins diet for a while and I dropped all this weight and felt good and it was the best thing that I ever did. I say, well why don't you stay on it? They would say, because my doctor said I was going to die from it. Well, that doesn't make any sense.
So you are telling me the way that you were eating that made you feel good and helps you lose weight, your doctor said it was wrong and so then you ate the way your doctor wants you to eat and you gained weight and you feel bad. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. It's almost stupid, alright?
So by way of a full evaluation and questionnaire, we figure out which system in your body determines how you respond to food. We find out which foods energize you and give you the health and vitality and weight loss that you want. Now I have access to a lengthy 150-question questionnaire that helps to find that system. When we find that system, I give you a food list, you get a full diet report, you get a sample meal plan. The going rate for this test is 75 for the first ten people to contact me, I give you $10 off and I will give you a half hour free consulting on the phone to answer all your questions and get you rocking and rolling on this diet.
Please cut out the guesswork, alright? In the 'Metabolic Typing Diet' book there was a questionnaire that will help you find out what is your metabolic type, but if you really, really want to get specific and in-depth, do do the questionnaire.
