The Volcano Cocktail Recipe
You’ve seen the glass. I know you want the drink. Let’s take a look at the Volcano Cocktail. Aloha and welcome to the Cocktail Spirit from Small Screen Network, I’m your host Robert Hess.
Now when people think about these exotic Tiki drinks, quite often they think about the elaborate ceramic glassware they’re often in. Many bars will actually have a different type of glass for each of the different exotic cocktails that they do.
One of the glasses that people always see up there in the shows but they seem that not to order very often is for a drink called the Volcano. The Volcano has a very unique type of punch bowlish sort of glass it served. Two multiple people with a little centered indentations specifically for the volcano effect.
Let’s take a look at how they make the volcano Cocktail. We start off first with 6 ounces of grapefruit juice, so you don’t have to watch me measure that out. I probably measured that out here. We then add to that 2 ounces of lime juice, 3/4 ounces of maple syrup, not a very common ingredient for drinks. Then half ounce of simple syrup, 3 ounces of Demerara rum, Mercedes drink is for multiple people. So it’s got a little bit of extra booze in it, 2 ounces of a Jamaican rum, 1 ounce of a standard Gold rum and then we shake this with ice. And actually with so much stuff there, rather than shaking, what I’m going to do is something called rolling.
So I’m going to pour it in this with the ice and just roll it, back and forth. This both mixes and chills the same way. As a matter of fact it’s believe this is probably the original way bartender would have made their drinks back on and go when they did before they had specific tools for doing it in.
There, that’s nicely done up. Let’s strain this into our specialty bowl here. And the final touch comes when we add in some 151 rum. I’m using 151 Demerara rum, but you can use any 151 rum either or 151 proof Vodka or something like that. Because it’s not the flavor of this we’re after, it’s going to be the flame.
Grab my matches here, and since like I said, this drink is served for multiple people. It is quite often serve with nice long straws.
