Hello everybody, you are welcome to Wine Library TV. I am your host Gary Vaynerchuck. And these are my friends. It is the thunder show a.k.a., the internet’s most passionate, wine program and today we are focusing on a very interesting little area in Burgundy, Saint Veran, made a 100% from Chardonnay, became an appellation in 1971 and it is in the South Burgundy area in between the Macon and Bojolay. This is an area that used to create extremely low priced shard from Burgundy. I just wanted to pause there. You know $7-12 of bottle and killed it, really under the radar.
Now, it got a long exposure over the last five years, the dollar has tanked over the last five to ten years and so what you see now are the wines are rolling in between the $15 and $30 price range on the single vineyards. So, the cheapest sale in the value screaming is stealing way. However, that being said, this wine still rival, a lot of the $20 to $30 new world shards from Australia and California and for that reason, it needs to be focused on for another reason, for pumping out hundred and hundreds of shows, it approached 600. This is a category we have not covered, so we are looking for all the niches that we can cover. Plus, it is an area that I enjoy quite a bit. I am a big fan of Chardonnay especially when I get that flinty minerality that I love so much in Chardonnay when it is not over oaked, because the oak monster is an issue and so I am excited about trying these first three especially this $15 wine that I am quite excited about. Let’s get ready to try, as you could see I have made by official prediction for the Monday night game. I am a little bit worried about it. However, if you live in San Diego, I will be in town. I get there in Monday morning, I am going to the Jet charters game. I am excited about that, so, I hope I will be able to hook up with you on that.
Now, the first one, this is the Jean Saint Honore, 2005, Saint-Veran, 15 U.S. bones, and let’s see what‘s going on here. Oh! I use a little sniffy-sniff glass, oh you like that huh! You like that Mat, so pour a little bit and twirl it. Some extremely big news out of the thunder cruise, Mat linked up to Thunder Cruise. You have been on vacation and make link up in quite a while. I am very excited about this. We have just negotiated with the cruise a situation where you can bring your own wine on board. You have to put it in the suit case, you can not have that open, need to be packed up, but you could bring your own wine on the Thunder Cruise. If you want to drink it at the restaurant, there is an $11-12 corkage fee. If you have it in your room, nothing. So, I’m excited about that, there is a lot of people pending and trying to decide if they are going to a Thunder Cruise for that reason I want to bring some special bottles and bring like a group of six. You now have it, let is keep the Thunder Cruise going. Cabins are going quickly, Mat. You know, you are ready for that? You’ll get a little action. Very nice. Let’s give this a sniffy sniff.
Get a little pair on the nose right away. A little petrol action which I usually see wheezing, but this is coming through a little bit on the nose here. Apple core, like sour, sour, apple as well is coming through in the nose. So okay, a nose action, I’m a little bit disappointed with that. Let’s give it a whirl. Good acid on the mid palate. Nice coaty kind of fruit on the backend, one more sip. You know, pretty soft effort here, it really comes across this, very average Chardonnay, to me in my opinion. Very basic, kind of boring, I get a little tiny action on the backend, which is probably the most exciting thing on this wine. I think I need to drink it now and see if there’s any selling opportunities. It is a wine that you will be paired probably with fish. But I will be honest with you, this is pretty poor effort. I am going to go 81 points on it. I think some major pass, 15 bones, not even close to being worth that price, a point in my opinion. That is something I am excited about at all. It is a tough start.
Let us give a quick birthday shout outs wh
