Things We Said Today Guitar Lesson

Hey rhythm strummers. Let me show you this cool guitar lick that appears in the song Things We Said Today. They even started out. [Demonstration] I can only use 30 second in these free lessons, so I’m going to save a little for the end. But, let me show you how this is played and how you could use it on all kinds of songs. So here is that little guitar thing that I did. In Rhythm Strummer, we tend to call that a strumpet. [Demonstration] Now, look at this diagram here. You see, right in the beginning of the diagram, in the first place, you see a bunch of arrows. It goes down, up, down. Down arrows mean strum downward. Up arrows mean, go upwards. And when they’re close together like this, you notice that along the bottom, we’ve got the beats 1, 2, 3, 4 in between the ends 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. When we go “ba da da”, it’s “and 1”, even faster than the end. Starting on the and of 4, a down, and the ‘uh’ is an up, and then down beat on 1, and we also played a down stroke on 2 and upstroke on the and of 3, and then the pattern repeats again. [Demonstration] It’s great. Let’s try it with a different chord just so your hand doesn’t fall off. How about a C chord? I want to play a C chord with my pinkie also so that I got all the strings sounding good. [Demonstration] Now, you could use this for all kinds places. You could use it in songs like “My Baby Wrote me a Letter”. [Demonstration] And of course, it appears great in things we said today. [Demonstration]
