Hey what’s up it’s Aaron, this lesson right now I’m going to do is on the song by Katy Perry it’s called Thinking of You, so for you all Katy Perry fans you finally get doing songs for me. I didn’t really like the kiss the girl thing, it’s weird and hot and cold is okay but rather to teach it so, thinking of you.
One of the riffs you hear in it is this.
[Demonstration]
Repeats that all through the intro, I’m not into intro but the verse and the pre chorus and their in the chorus they maybe playing it which you can’t really hear because the ocean’s kind of drums it out. But that little intro I’ll teach you real quick, I want you to take your pointer finger and I want you to bar across the bottom 3 strings on the 7th fret okay. So you come to the 7th fret, put your pointer finger lay it down all 3 of strings okay. Then you’ll going to take your middle finger and put in your 3rd string up 8th fret ok? So the first thing that you’ll going to play when in the 3 string.
[Demonstration]
Okay 1, 2, 3 get 3 string.
[Demonstration]
You going to pick once.
[Demonstration]
And hammer all with your ring finger. Just means to put your ring finger down on top.
[Demonstration]
On the 9th fret
[Demonstration]
And you play, to be an A string okay? So you play
[Demonstration]
So speed it out just like this.
[Demonstration]
So you can hear that if it wasn’t long, so that’s that the tabs have also info box and you’re on friend music guitar dot com. That would be much easier to see, so alright we’re going top tackle this in 3 sections o\r 4. Pre chorus the verse the pre chorus , chorus and the bridge. So the chorus, I’m sorry the verse is 4 chords okay? You can find this in the tabs also but the 1st chord you’re going to take your pointer finger and place it on the 7th fret of your 5th string. With your 2nd string on top okay, your 8th strings 7th fret then your right pinkie is going to the 9th fret in to middle strings.
Now you’re going to basically play those 3 strings, that is supposed to play, you’re going to repeating bottom 2 just by coincidence and that’s perfectly fine don’t worry about it. the one thing you don’t want to do is you ,don’t like this lowly note you don’t want to sound like this.
[Demonstration]
You don’t want this low either right now, ,so you can actually meet that by either setting your ring finger on top. Don’t push that but just fairly sitting it on top. Or I like to use best is the thumb.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so it’s going to go like this.
[Demonstration]
Strum pattern for the first chord.
[Demonstration]
2nd chord okay, you’re going to release the low E from the mute. Pick your pointer finger up, this 2 fingers stay at the same place here on the 9th fret in 2 middle strings. This finger comes up from where was in A string comes to the 6th string, your low E okay?
[Demonstration]
And you play like that okay? so basically this string here, A string is kind of muted just because the bottom is part of my pointer finger it’s not holding any of these strings, it’s just kind of resting on there and muting that.
[Demonstration]
Okay the 3rd chord, you’re going to actually when your low E got to be on the 9th fret okay?
[Demonstration]
That’s the 9th fret the A string is muted intentionally but my middle finger kind of back of the finger and then your 2 middle strings still on the 9th fret. And that sound like this.
[Demonstration]
And after that the 4th chord is you just lift this up. And mute this low E again and strum.
[Demonstration]
Open, 9th fret 9th fret and you kind of strum of these.
[Demonstration]
And you can actually hit the bottom too also it sorts some like this put together.
[Demonstration]
Okay just using that strum pattern I gave you a minute ago and all the chords. So that is the verse, the pre chorus, you had a few different chords. The first time to the pre chorus, you’re going top be playing this.
[Demonstration]
Okay the 2nd time to the pre chorus, same 1st two chords.
[Demonstration]
But after actually this one you’re become the why I appear and play like this.
[Demonstration]
Definitely this chords appears some horrible kind as well you can play but it’s up to you. so for the pre chorus, in both of the 2 you could see the pre chorus 2 lines okay. So 2 times 2 to 1 each one. And the very first 2 chords of the both lines are this little B suspended.
[Demonstration]
And C sharps suspended okay? all that means is the B suspended, you borrow the bottom 5 strings okay? So in 5th 2nd fret bottom 5 strings ring and pinkie come here on the middle.
[Demonstration]
2 strings on the 4th fret okay? I’m sure this 2,4,4 chords let’s have it 2,4,4 okay?
[Demonstration]
I mean you can use your strum pattern you want.
[Demonstration]
Slide everything up to 2 frets to that next chord you’re going to play.
[Demonstration]
And you see I’m little A chord ok? You can do.
[Demonstration]
It’s got that A with high E open at once and then 2nd fret opening in, don’t worry about it just play A chord all the way through.
[Demonstration]
I’m going to give you the strum patterns whenever I listen to the song and stroll along with it because I it’s been 20 minutes or so I’ll pull tab , heard the song so I can’t remember.
2nd time through you can play this the B songs so I’m just going to go.
[Demonstration]
This lot, just hold it to the 12th fret if you borrow 14 of this. And I would skip all the 12 and 13 just it won’t center. I’ll 12 14 so this is 12th fret right here just hold the string and these 2 middle is the 14th fret so.
[Demonstration]
But it’ll kill time and you can’t play A minor chord.
[Demonstration]
That’s the pre chorus and the chorus you start out in E chord okay?
[Demonstration]
That’s your first chord.
[Demonstration]
Once you get through your E chord, you’re actually going to lift your middle. The E chord is your first chord, the 2nd chord is this chord right here.
[Demonstration]
So that’s actually an A sauce, backslash f sharp. Because A sauce chord than a f sharp backslash. Watch learn how bar chords work if you have any questions along to what I’m saying that thing. So your that’s your E Chord first with your strum pattern to deal with it. with your pointer and middle up I’m sorry and then you stick your pinkie finger right down had, so you have the 2 middle strings covering the 2nd fret then add your middle finger to the 2nd fret low E and that’s that chord.
[Demonstration]
Sounds like an E
[Demonstration]
So the first up to the chorus you do that E chord into A sauce f sharp. You get 2 measures in the last measure is this little B sauce that we did last time.
[Demonstration]
2nd up to the chorus, you go back to your E .
[Demonstration]
To you’re A sauce slash f sharp chord and it just means 2 middle string 2nd fret middle finger 2nd fret.
[Demonstration]
The bridge is a little different; the 2 chords that you got to need to know that we haven’t used yet are C sharp minor chord which all that means is you borrow across the bottom 5 strings on the 4th fret. Your middle and I’m sorry your ring and your pinkie go right down the middle just like the C sauce suspended chord we did earlier.
[Demonstration]
But this time, you’re going to add your middle finger to the 5th fret of your 2 string to B and it turns into a C sharp minor.
[Demonstration]
And then we’re also going to need a acting on that chord, you’re going to need to slide down here bar across all 6 strings okay? On the 2nd fret and then your ring pinkie are right here on the 4th fret of A and D and this middle finger comes down on the 3rd fret.
[Demonstration]
So that chord there is actually an F sharp chord okay? And you play a bunch of stuff with the A.
