Tied Notes – Nate Bosch
Hi, I’m Nate Bosch and today I want to talk to you about tied notes.
Now, tied notes looks like this, 2 quarter notes with a line tiding them together. Now,
what that does is when you want to hold a note over a bar line, so in 4/4 time a bar is
made up of 4 beats 1, 2, 3, 4 the next is 1, 2, 3, 4. Now we can play a fourth quarter notes
but what happens when you want to hold a note through from the fourth beat in the first
bar to the first beat in the second bar. Well you can’t write a half note in the middle of the
bar lines, so what they do is they have a quarter note tied to another quarter note, and
that’s basic that you can do, you can tie half notes together, you can tie eighth notes
together, that tie there is meant to hold notes over a bar line, and there you have it, “tied
notes”.
