Okay, let us get you skating backwards or in other words the backward stride.

Backward stride, similar to forward, is an inside edge thrusts with a full extension. When you do a full extension, I want you to think of the letter C, it is a C-cut thrust, pushing you backwards and you are transferring this thrusting power to your glided bended knee on the flat part of the edge.

Again, you want to return that thrusting leg underneath the hip for balance, transfer the weight on to that foot and do another C-cut thrust with the opposite leg returning again under the hip. Repeating this time after time—will generate lots of power, speed and balance.
