Tiling a Bathroom Floor

Steve Watson: If you want to change the look of your bathroom give it yourself a brand new tile floor it’s a quick and fun way to change the entire look. You are going to need some materials, you are going to need the grout that you pick out, you need cement board, you are going to need cement board screws and of course you are going to need your tile. The tools you are going to need a wet tile saw, a mastic trail, a grout trail, a tape measure, spacers, a hammer, matting knife, jig saw, cordless drill, a tile scraper, a bucket and a mixer. To get started this is easier than you might think, first turn out the water to your sink and your toilet then remove your toilet, remove your sink and your cabinet at that point take the hammer and hammer all of the existing tiles if you have a tile floor or remove carpet if that what you have then you use the towel scraper and then scrape up all the tile and then get everything out and clean up as much as you can. Once you done with vacuum and clean and you’re done to your subfloor then it’s time to attach your cement board. You use backer screws in your cement board every 12 inches to make sure will never move otherwise your crack your tile then it’s time to lessen tile. First you make sure thin set molder, mix it up to a nice kick better consistency. All you have to do put your thin set in the center or in the corner and then simply spread it around. Better in nice big area then using the two side of your grout trail you are going to drag along the thin set in 45 degree angles creating groves and valleys which you give it teeth and then help it to hold the tile in place. Then you put the tile on place give it a nice twist or something you might use the rubber mallet to hammer the corners edge to make sure it set. Then you use your spacers and you put in your other tile, use spacers around all four sides of your tile to make sure that everything is evenly space. Once the tile is in place then you walk away for 24 hours and come back the next day and it’s time to grout. Grouting is pretty simple, mix it in the bucket and put them on the tile and just drag it along all the groves in 45 degree strokes that will make sure it gets in all the grove evenly. As you going wipe up as much excess grout as you can then you want to go over it one time with the wet sponge and then walk in away and let the grout dry. After is dry come back in and hit it again with the wet sponge and walk away and let it dry again. You have to repeat this process two or three times or as many times as it takes to get all the excess grout off the floor. It is time to reattach your sink, reattached your toilet and turns your water back on and then you’re done.
