Duncan chooses Wake Forest, but struggled at first. Even being held 0022 in his first college team, however, in that same year, his simple effective play begun to prove useful for the demon deacons and finished the 92-93 season with a record of 20 wins and 11 losses. By his sophomore year, Duncan was being held as one of the most promising NBA prospects along with other college players, Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse.
He would in fact meet up with Rasheed Wallace star Hills in his sophomore year for the ACC championship title by neutralizing Wallace; Duncan was able to lead Wake Forest over North Carolina in over time despite only making it to the sweet 16. Duncan was named defensive player of the year, while averaging stats of 16.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 3.98 blocks per game. In the 195-1996 season, Duncan was the undisputed leader of Wake Forest leaving his young team to an impressive record only losing four times during the entire ACC season, however after coming down at the flu of sweet 16.
Duncan was not able to lead his team any closer to the final four, but adhering to his late mother’s wishes, Duncan remained in college for a fourth year and earned his degree despite rumors that he would enter the NBA Draft early, in his four years in Wake Forest. Duncan proved his well-rounded skills and NAB potential by becoming one of only ten players to finish his NCAA basketball career with more than 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 block shots, and 200 assists. In the 1997 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs would draft Duncan first overall. Here along with continuing individual success, Duncan would finally capture a championship by defeating the New York Knicks in the 1999 NBA finals.
