Tips to Help Teens Quit Smoking

Mary Lou: Hi my name is Mary Lou and I'm from Clarence, New York. I was wondering are there any tips that I can use to get my teen to stop Smoking?

Kevin Everhart: Mary Lou, it's difficult for adults to quit smoking, it's even more difficult adolescents. I think the most important thing that you can do is convey you're feeling to your child in a caring and loving way.

You can also look into Smoking Session groups to see if there's any counseling available, checking it with your pediatrician or school counselor. Also it's important to help your child find their own motivations to quit. Hopefully they will learn to care about their bodies and don't want to hurt themselves.

Finally keep the lines of communication open, we don't want any secrecy. We want to your child to feel comfortable coming to you about their struggle to quit smoking.
