Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host Derrick Schommer. Today were going to cover the Tom Collins, this is the reason to have Collins Glasses. This is the glasses that I got at the www.homebarsupplys.com you can check them out. This is the clear version we can use the frosted ones but I would if I were you at home making this for other people. I making this for you, you want to be all see them so used a clear. We’re going to used a little lemon juice not all of this but I just want to show you that is freshly squeeze I did it with my own hands and were going to have some Club Soda to top it and G’Vine Gin.
This gin is awesome, it’s not only as a fancy you know it come with a school glass but it’s a little I guess you called it top shelves for gin. Gin typically falls between anywhere from 22 to probably $30 this is like $38 so it’s like top shelves in a little higher. But the thing is it taste top shelves is not just the branding this imported from France. I like it some nice and huge fan of gin and this gin taste awesome it’s got a floral component to it. It’s not just your lemon dry gin so if you use in that type of gin this going to be slightly different but the experience is well worth the time and effort.
So were going to do two ounces of gin, were going to do an ounce of the fresh lemon juice, and were going to put in 4 ounces of Club Soda or basically top it. Garnish it with cherry and orange and this going to be a little simple serve that were going to add until balance off that lime, that lemon. I don’t know why I called lime, lemon, lime, lemon, lime, lemon, it so confusing.
So let’s start out with we’re going to just go with the 2 ounces of gin right of the bat. It’s a lot of gin but if you’re using traditional gin, it will work fine. That’s smell like a cologne something I might wear. And I will do teaspoon of simple syrup, which is just water and sugar I’ve boiled it a cup of each and I’ve been using this is much as I can because I still I’m gone to my first batch yet. I don’t know how long it last but its sugar it must last forever it’s like a twinkie. I think I used that one before. And a 1 ounce of the lemon something sticky, that will be what your final colors is going to look alike not too impressive but it’s going to be a simple lime.
This is a very great staple drink, something if you go to the bar and you just don’t know what to order, you want to be a little different say I want Tom Collins. Little ice this up over here should be good, here we go. Ice Collins Glass shakes it, up to 10 seconds to shake. Here we go just like it’s about four ounces of space, this is extremely important component if you leave this hour it’s going to be very, very lemony. This lightens it up, sweet. Now let’s see do we have anything a little is cool little here we go. These guys, let’s make a little fancy, fancy go to yellow. You can buy this at the store too, these are cool if you want to impress your friends thus a little umbrella things you just got brook this one. Apparently some of them come defective I’ll be got it from China, and has a little of mess but this is good enough.
I love Maraschino cherries pop that through set that in there now. Now isn’t that fancy folks. Check it out and the resting it up mix it like a whole lot better because otherwise you just have its looks like water down lemonade. And you know I really won’t water down lemonade. Got to mix a hard of drink but most people will take it out first. It’s got a G’Vine is like I said is floral, so you going to get a little hint of like a flowers immediately just they go right in the nasal passages. It’s not something that’s going to like turn you off really but it definitely adds an unique flavor to it. It’s got the gin a little pine, a little juniper but not much very light not as lemony as you would it is, crisp and refreshing overall.
If you’re looking for a drink and you’re trying something different and you don’t want to get dangerous into areas that might not like, if you’re a gin drinker just order a Tom Collins it will come something like that. It’s tasty, a little on the sour side but not too much. Definitely a good drink, hey check us out on Twitter, its twitter.com/everydaydrinker, you can follow me and see what I’ve talking about.
