Travis Stork: We're back discussing the health risks in your home that you never knew about. Doctor Jim has made a visit to a new family worried about safety in their own home. He's been counting down the hidden house as they had no idea for putting them in danger.
Jim Counts: I know when you -- rest of your house, you have a lot of brand new TVs, but this one is an older one, right?
Female Speaker: Right.
Jim Counts: These old TVs have a flame retardant and they're called P.B.D.E, it's not good for you at all. So, either update your old electronics or make sure you dust regularly with a nice stamp cloth. Your fire place - If it's dirty, it can emit microscopic sub particles they can trigger allergy and asthma. If you use it regularly, you should get it cleaned once a year. Number three the bathroom -- Medications, whether prescription or the can, if they're expired, don't flush them or throw them away or putting down in the sink because it'll get into the water supply that way; just taking back to the pharmacy and they will expose them for you.
Well, yeah. The garage - This is the epicenter of the danger zone. We've got a lot of sharp objects, some pesticides, some flammables, let's make sure we keep them locked up that way this little guy doesn't get them. And the number one health hazard that I found around your house is this pool. Now, I know pools are great for family memories, a lot of fun, but you know it's just a tragedy waiting to strike. You know what? You got to do right.
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Male Speaker: Yeah.
Jim Counts: You got to fence this pool, you know even if you didn't have kids, if you got neighbors, you got friends coming over, guests. Keep it nice and safe. I want you to get all these things done and this house will be a nice and safe environment for both you and your family.

Travis Stork: So, pools are supposed to be fine. Right, Jim? Why are they so dangerous?
Jim Counts: Well, a couple of things, first off the drains. I have nightmares about this, about with micas at the pool. You know this is want to be old, it's a flat drain and you know your body can get pressed up against and there is a lot of such, and this thing will have enough section to hold down a grown man, but alone a child also here can get stuck in there. So, you don't want to use it these old flat drains, you want to get a domed drain. This is the new style, you can your body can't fit flush against this. So, you won't get a suction going out. There is also some of the new systems that have a safety shut off that if it gets clogged, the pump shuts off.
