Top 5 Breast Cancer Prevention Tips
Dr. Travis Stork: Actually we should to Dr. Kristi Funk, who’s a surgical breast specialist
for her top five prevention list.
Dr. Kristi Funk: Hey ladies, listen up here are my top five breast cancer prevention tips.
Five, minimize or avoid alcohol. Drinking just one alcoholic beverage a
day increases breast cancer risk by 10%. Two drinks a day, 30%, so keep
those Martinis and Margaritas to a minimum.
Four, eat your vegies. Do I sound like mom? Broccoli, spinach, carrots
and tomatoes have all been associated with a decrease in cancer risk.
Here's a tip, be sure to eat them raw. Phytochemicals that are thought to
prevent breast cancer are destroyed by heat.
Three, get a move on. Many studies have shown that regular exercise
provides powerful protection against breast cancer. Don’t have time to hit
the gym? Just walking briskly for 11 minutes a day drop breast cancer risk
or 18%
Two, swap your oils. Saturated and trans fat found in butter, margarine,
and largely for birthdays only my friends. Concentrate on mono-saturated
in vegetable oils, such as olive oil. Or omega 3 which is found in fish like
salmon.
And finally, the number one thing you can do to prevent death from breast
cancer, get squished. Get your mammogram, early stage breast cancer
found in mammograms is 98% curable.
So starting at age 40 get a mammogram every year, don’t skip.
