Top Google Searches
Welcome to CNET Top 5. For each time we meet we count down another hot CNET list, I’m Tom Merritt. Time to get to dip in to Google Trends for a look at what’s on the mind of the world.
So went to Google.com/insights/search to see what searches were on the rise during the past 90 days right here on planet earth. Let’s count them down.
At number 5 YouTube.com. Yeah, YouTube.com the whole thing proved positive that some people use Google search like an address bar and type in the whole URL.
Coming in at number 4, E-Okul, 100% of these searches come from Turkey. I didn’t have a clue what this meant until Hyberk on Twitter explained it’s an attempt to put all the student databases in Turkey into the cloud. Go Turkey!
Up to number 3, F1 now this is in everybody using the function key to get helped but it has to do with the budget cap in Formula 1 racing. At least mostly, there might be some people searching for the function key.
Sliding in at number 2, Twitter, we get criticized for over covering Twitter but the fact to the matter is we only cover it because so many people don’t know what the heck it is or what it’s used for. Before we get to number 1, time for another lame prize.
I got 5 Oscar Meyer Weiner Whistles for five of the first 10 people to go to Blog.cnettv.com and post an answer to the blog posting for this top 5. Here is the question. What was number 6 on the list? There’s a Weiner Whistle in it for you.
All right, let’s get to our number 1 the fastest rising search term in the world on Google over the past three months. At number one, it’s—you’re going to guess it, Swine Flu. But I should have guessed it from the pork inspired lame prize this week. Swine Flu has been deemed a level 6 Pandemic but thankfully as turned out to be much less severe the many feared. Here’s hoping you avoid even a light case.
Well that’s it for this edition at CNET Top 5. You can check out all kinds of interesting search stats at Google.com/insights/search and don’t forget log@cnettv.com to win the whistle. I'll wash that one before I send it. I’m Tom Merritt, see you next time.
