Top of the Back Swing Position in Golf

Hi! I am Rich Hogan from the Whitetail Golf Resort, and today's video is on teaching you to swing the golf club properly. In this portion of the golf swing what we are going to try to do is teach you to get to the golf club to the top of the backswing in proper position. As you see now I have a couple golf clubs laying on the ground here, and one of the things I try to do is teach the player getting the golf club to the top, and in doing that I am taking two clubs at parallel, these two golf clubs in order to give me the proper direction to start the golf ball in. I have got my grip, my stance, and my setup, and now what I am going to try to do is teach the person to get the golf club moving away from the golf ball in the proper position. What I am going to try to do here is not take the golf club straight back nor outside of that line. A lot of times players will take it straight back or outside, it will cause and become across the golf ball causing the ball to slice a little bit to the right for right-handed player. The next thing I am going to try to do is get the club moving away from the golf ball on a slightly inside path going away from the ball. All I am going to do is using my shoulders and my arms to turn the golf club back, again trying to keep the face of the golf club facing golf ball just a little bit longer. So at this point I'm going to start the rotation of my arms and my shoulders, getting the golf club back. Now at this point all I am going to do is raise my arms and shoulders up, getting the club into the proper position at the top of the swing. Again, it's very important to keep that golf club moving not straight back, because it will cause you to slide laterally off of the ball. The more you slide off of the ball, the more you have got to come back through it. So at this point we are trying to take the club on a little bit of an inside path, lift, and at that point we are going to teach you a little bit about the downswing and getting the ball back to the point of impact.
