Training for Unorthodox Shooting Positions
Here's another important video from the Personal Defense Network.
Now of course most people are likely to train in outdoor range and with multiple shooters on the line at one time. So what we’re going to look at now is how you can go through of those unorthodox shooting positions without having to worry about holstering each time that we are not covering other people on the line next to you. And we’re going to show that you can transition between them, still keeping the firearm oriented or either down at the ground in front of you or down range towards the targets.
So we've got two shooters here on line in front of two steel targets. Of course, we’re using frangible ammunition so we don’t have to worry about being this close to the targets. We don’t worry about splash or recherché or anything like that. We’re going to have both shooters go ahead and go to a kneeling position maintaining a safe orientation of the firearm. And on the standard commands, you're going to engage the target with multiple shoots to high centered chest area. At this point, we’re going to have you go down through your left side. Again, making sure that the firearm is kept in a good tight ready position. Notice that their torso is actually touching the ground. They are not up on their arm. They're arms are free to extend, touch and press. And again, back to a kneeling position, down through your right side.
Again, doing the reload and as close to a good compress ready position as you can back to a kneeling position and to a seated position on the ground. Your legs are out in front of you and good tight ready position and lying back down on the ground. Again, extending between the legs with the gun kept in a high compress ready position with the gun kept in his high compressed ready position up in here not extended out because again, we may need to orient it in a different direction. And back to a kneeling position. And then down to a prone position.
Again, keeping the firearm tuck in close to the body. We want a good ready position which allows us to have maximum retention and maximum flexibility of extension and deployment. And on deployment here, what we’re going to do is we’re going to do one handed extension with targets at this range. They're actually going to use their off hand once again to lift themselves up either in a full push-up with one hand or just a partial push-up with their forearm to get them up off the ground, to give them clearance to extend and engage the target. And back to a kneeling position. And again, back to a standing position.
So you can see that we can go through all of our unorthodox shooting positions in this dirt range with multiple shooters and always keep that firearm oriented in a safe direction. It’s important whenever you try to train and attack to an environment for shooting in a realistic situation, all of these unorthodox things or just any kind of advanced pistol handling on a range with other people that you're doing it safely, conscientiously and of course, technically correct.
