Christy Burton: Another from Mike Less, I'm having trouble copying media 500 meg to 1.5 gig typical files across my network from Ubuntu 9.04 to vista 32 bit SP2 shared folder. I get a random timeout error, I did not have this problem until recently and try to disable vista auto tuning but no diff. hardware and network config have not changed, my suspension of course, vista. I can copy the files after I get a timeout error by un-mounting and mounting again and try to copy again, hope that makes sense.
Robbie Ferguson: It could be so many things, so many things.
Christy Burton: It could be vista.
Robbie Ferguson: What it could be? It could be router, whatever is connecting those two computers together maybe hard booth that, un-plugged it lets it set for 30 seconds and put it back in. You switch whatever you plugged into, because were saying it wasn’t happening before did you move your computer? Are you on wireless? Did you get a new portable phone in the house that might be interfering on the 2.4 gigabits range?
Christy Burton: Really?
Robbie Ferguson: Possible so many things could cause that. But if you suspect that its windows issue and try backing up and do with the opposite direction. Share the folder on your Linux system and then connect in from your windows vista system. You can share folder on Linux just by right clicking on the folder itself I think it’s just called sharing. Yeah, let's pull it up nice and simple.
See I keep doing that crazy, I'm used to do in the mouse we are and there we go. Sharing options, so that’s where you're getting and start you know actually sharing that folder and then from your windows box, now you can actually access that with // and then the name of that computer. I mean what I've done with my system here and crazy there we go. But try that reverse that process be copying it from your Ubuntu system to your windows system.
Christy Burton: Daren Opten.
Robbie Ferguson: Does that answering the question, does that seen too.
Christy Burton: Yeah, I had no idea that telephones even could—getting a new phone in could be a factor.
Robbie Ferguson: I could but I would just, I would try and if all else fails. How much space did he say it was like 500 gigs, that’s pretty big, couldn’t it just be like the size of a particular file in that, in that massive files too. Or it could be the permission on one of the files.
Christy Burton: Right.
Robbie Ferguson: So you got to check all of this kinds of things it might be beneficial for you to with that much, data to using external drive for your transfer.
