Kevin Flynn: Hey everybody I am Kevin Flynn and welcome to Travel Bites to San Diego. Now if you are looking for a place to take your family to have all kinds of fun, San Diego is a place to go. They have got beaches, they have got boats, they have got parks. So let's go check it all out.
I am in historic Belmont Park which has absolutely something for everyone. They have the rides and the arcades for the kids, stores for mom and dad, when you are done having all the fun here, you could head right to the beach, it's just yards away and they also have a great roller coaster, which I am going to get on.
Speaker: Well, it's a giant of a roller coaster. It's a historical landmark and it's one of two remaining roller coasters on the west coast of this age. They were built in 1925; it was actually closed in 1976, all the way to 1990. It was closed for 13 years where we restored it and had 1,000 people who coming down to ride it. It was very nostalgic fun feeling. When they had room, when they were younger, they wanted their kids to come down and ride. It was a very excellent time.
Kevin Flynn: Alright, Belmont park was fun, took in some ways, took in a little beach, took in roller coaster, now let's take in some ships. I am at the U.S.S. Midway here in San Diego, it's a former aircraft carrier which has been converted into a floating museum and there are all kinds of really cool things for the kids and the adults as well, check out.
Speaker: This ship was commissioned September 1945, right after World War II and it was named in honor of the battle of Midway. I came back here to San Diego in 1992 and was decommissioned right here at Naval Air Station, North Island and we opened up two years ago, June 7th as a museum. They have recommended to everybody from 10 to 100.
Kevin Flynn: There is self guided audio tour which is narrated by navy veterans, many of whom served on the Midway. But my highlight was a visit to the top gun fight simulator. Another day in the office, one of these people are going to realize not to mess with Flynn. So the U.S.S. Midway, is not only a lot of fun, but it's also educational for the family as well, but make sure you give yourself enough time to see the entire ship, they suggest between one and a half to three hours.
Alright we have seen the U.S.S. Midway. Let's take a little walk and head towards Balboa Park. Alright we are outside Balboa Park which is really more, so much more than just a park. There are all kinds of fun, exciting things for the family to do. So let's get in there and start exploring. You could spend a whole day at Balboa Park and you still wouldn't be able to take in all the sites and attractions. Everywhere you look in Balboa Park you take in by its beauty.
Although, Balboa Park has a tremendous sense of art and architecture, there is also the Casa Del Prado Theater as well as a replica of the Old Globe Shakespearian theater. The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, houses an IMAX movie theater and has all kinds of other interactive games for the kids.
So we have checked out the USS Midway, Belmont Park and Balboa Park, three great places for the family to have some fun and I tell you what, we haven't even starched the surface of the San Diego, it's just an all around great destination for the whole family. Alright, everybody that's it for this episode of Travel Bites. I am Kevin Flynn, I will see you next time on the road.
