Rebecca Brayton: This desert country is famous for its wildlife and landscape. Hi, I'm Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com. Today we'll be learning more about the tourism industry in Namibia.
The tourism industry in Namibia has been steadily increasing in recent years. While the majority of the country's approximately one million annual visitors come from South Africa, it is also popular with German and other European tourists. The extreme climate in Namibia makes it a perfect location for some extreme sports. One example is sand skiing, which is similar to traditional skiing on snow.
However, wildlife is one of the most important tourist draws for the country. Partake in a real life African safari. Observe such reverential beasts as the lion, rhinoceros and giraffes in their natural habitat. Although, hunting is another popular pastime, the practice is causing certain animals numbers to diminish rapidly. Some are now even considered endangered species.
Despite the country's reputation as a desert land, it boasts a long coastline and some excellent water activities. Observe dolphins swimming in the ocean or interact with friendly seals. Parts of Namibia are also considered paradise for fly fishermen. Namibia is also home to beautiful beaches where the sand meets the Atlantic Ocean. While safaris are popular on land, there are also fascinating boat trips. An amazing variety of animal species are visible from this unique vantage point.
While it is a relatively popular activity, ATV riding through Namibia's deserts is having a negative impact on the environment.
Fortunately, there are some trails around that provide a safe passage for riders to see the spectacular landscape without damaging it. You can also drive around the open roads in an SUV and encounter minimal traffic and spectacular views.
