Majit Devgun: World famous museums, architectural masterpieces also night life and inventive regional cuisine all in one 2,000 year old Mediterranean and very cosmopolitan beach town. Can you guess where we are going today?
Hello, I’m Manjit Devgun, welcome to city by city. Our journey across Europe continues. Today we’re traveling to Spain for special Catalonian treat, the exciting, mysterious Barcelona. Capital of Catalonia, Barcelona is a thriving port town, a home of the castle and it’s known for its atmospheric gothic porter and famous thoroughfare, Las Ramblas. But you can’t talk about Barcelona without mentioning Antoni Gaudi, the famous Catalonian architect.
First time of the city often spectacular views of the town and harbor below, the whimsical Park Guell is a dreamlike fantasy land with typical Gaudi touches, so real stonework with curving benches in the shapes of serpents, contorted twisting sidewalks and columns, colored tiled mosaic and why not a huge lizard. Gaudi’s formers residence is here as well now a museum.
Also see the Casa Mila Ola Pedreras it’s called which means stone quarry, completed in 1911 and just down in the street from La Sagrada Familia. La Pedrera is a residential building with an audacious round exterior layers of rippled stone and vault iron balconing curving around the corner looking like the home building will melt away at any moment.
Let’s head back to Hotel Omm.
Clementina Mila: Hotel Omm opened four years ago in 2003 and it was the first hotel of a group of Tragaluz which is a very well-known restaurant group in Barcelona, and the special concept of the Omm was that it was going to be another place also for local people.
Manjit Devgun: Perfectly located nearby on the Passage de Gracia, a dreamy sublimely designs states of the art hotel with the soothing tranquil and of course languorous atmosphere. The Omm of the sophistication across the board including the popular bar, a hit night club and the superb restaurant named Moo. Make sure to visit the lovely roof top terrace with swimming pool and bar. Believe me you will want to live ever.
Tonight we have a special treat for anyone who likes creatively prepared meat but especially for those with a sweet tooth, Espai Sucre which means sugar spice is a restaurant but more accurately a place of worship dedicated to dessert.
Daniela Sol Bertucci: Since this dessert is a middle of dessert in the menu.
Manjit Devgun: Yes, serving multiple courses of highly imaginative, original dessert meals combining exotic flavors and textures you’ve never tasted before.
Stepping back into the night it’s hot to resist the Lika Lounge, Barcelona’s self proclaimed only high end up skill Martini Ice bar and what you find is an enticing space from circular booths, sleek design elements blending with warm wood tones and the long bar made of ice. Have a cocktail at their Ice Spa, bag and if you’re still hungry special treats of sometimes available such as sushi and other surprises deliberate in the most creative ways.
Like Madrid, Barcelona is known for its late night rivalry. Some clubs don’t even open until 2:00 A.M. and many parties till dawn.
For the last stop tonight we’ll head to the certain club the trendy and languorous Danzatoria with the vast plus lounge area several booths plenty of beautiful people and the huge action party dancers.
J.C. Iniesta: Sutton club is right now one of the best clubs in Barcelona. We’ve been opened for the last six years. We’re going for our seventh year.
Manjit Devgun: Barcelona is about as hip as it gets and we didn’t even scratch the surface. There’s so much more, go to a topless bar, hang out at the beach, visit the Picasso Miro and contemporary art museums and just soak in the beauty of this proud city.
Time to go this is Manjit, see you next time on city by city.
