Hi, I’m Rebecca Breighton and welcome to watchmojo.com. Today, we’ll be profiling the most visited city in Portugal, Lisbon.
Lisbon has enough sights and facilities in and around the capital to make it your favorite tourist destination.
Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal. It has a municipal population of over 564,000 while the Lisbon metropolitan area in total has around 2.8 million inhabitants.
Lisbon is the western most capital in Europe. It is located in the west of the country on the Atlantic coast of the point where the River Tagus flows and sees the Atlantic Ocean.
Lisbon lies in both the Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic zones thereby enjoying a pleasantly temperate climate year round.
It’s main annual temperature is 63 degrees Fahrenheit with average temperature in winter of 55 and 80 in the summer. July and August were the hottest, driest months while November to February are the wettest and coldest.
The city of Lisbon is rich in architecture. Romanics, Gothic, Baroque, traditional Portuguese, modern and post-modern constructions can be found all over the city. The city is also crossed by great boulevards and monuments particularly in the upper districts. The city is set on seven hills with its cobble stoned pavements and narrow streets full of art, and go cafes.
You’ll find yourself wandering through colorful 18th Century’s Square down town and getting lost in the Medieval maze of the Alfama District overlook by an ancient castle.
The charm of Lisbon exists in its strong links to the past, renovated palaces, magnificent churches and an impressive castle mere the city’s rich culture heritage. It’s eclectic blend of neighborhoods, culture and architecture, distinguished this capital city uniquely from the other European capitals and makes it a truly fascinating and comprehensive city to visit.
Lisbon is a legendary city with over 20 centuries of history, but Lisbon isn’t all cultural and history, but and although is the center of night life with various restaurants and bars where melancholic traditional Portuguese music can also be heard, follow that with the divings to the spectacular Oceanarium and spend your nights indulging in the city’s gastronomic delights or bar hopping to the colored alleys.
The Lisbon coast whose some fine sandy beaches are Cascais and Estro, fishing villages like Sesimbra and the forest and magical architecture of Centra, with its world palaces and stunning investors from Lisbon to the wild Atlantic. If that’s not enough, take a boat along the Sado for an article view of the coast.
Lisbon is one of Europe’s most beautiful and livable cities with the variety of cuisines, cultures and leisure activities.
In addition, the standard of English is generally very good and Lisbon is connected by short and inexpensive flights to other major European cities.
