As Shanghai used into the 21st Century, a new Cosmopolitan City has emerged with the dynamic art scene, a dazzling nightlife and ultra modern center of business and commerce. While massive development is transforming the city, remnant of its colorful past is still on display. If there’s a center of action, it’s the bond from day you’ll find a stunning view across the Huangpu River towards Pudong, symbol of Shanghai’s pleasing future.
Just two blocks from the famous Nanjing Road, open Hotel Shanghai is a shipped design hotel of Prince stylish yet ecologically-minded travellers a chance to go green.
Known as Chinese first covered neutral hotel, this former prosthetic factory has reclaimed the original building incorporating green space and recycled materials such as brick and mahogany from destroyed new townhouses.
Jules Kwan: I want staying here, staying at covered neutral. It’s very unique in terms of the material choices that we use and how we designed, out of wood and bricks come out of old houses that they have been knocked down for the new developments.
And the so many rooms of a contemporary design with warm tones and natural materials and the variety of views.
Jules Kwan: We design the rooms to be completely different from normal hotels. We created these big lounge areas inside of the rooms with sort of 5-7 people can sit happily and hang out.
To tap it off, you can always find soothing sustenance at room 28, the lovely Asian fusion restaurant and lounge.
Shopping in Shanghai and then experiencing the old, the brand new or even brand new interpretations of the old suggestion beyond deep a new development recreating the Shanghai of old. If you want the real thing however, full of local color and characters, you should visit the Dongtai Lu Lantern Market.
Nestled in the side streets of an old Shanghai residential neighborhood, this is the best but for unusual objects and souvenirs, ceramics, baskets, lanterns, musical instruments, Buddha statues, old radios, beautiful old containers and many other historical items and of course plenty of fabulous communist—if all else fails, there’s always mahjong but be careful to competition can be feared.
The art scene in China is hot and in Shanghai, the place to go is M50 named for 50 Moganshan Road where former industrial complex has been converted into cutting gage galleries and artist studios. Wondering to some of the openwork spaces where you’ll find groups such as the Island 6 Art Center,a group of artist dedicated to the experimentation and production of electronic and interactive art. Due to city development, they’ve recently moved from their original location in a flower mill to a new space where they continue to push boundaries.
Thomas Charveriat: Well, that’s art business people, we are artist and since we don’t go to gallery but we’re more on art production, a lot of galleries buy from. Their prices are very competitive and we’re also running independently of any kind government or institution that we are completely self sufficient.
Island 6 provides emerging artists a lightly stimulating environment in which to create as well as a means of presenting their work, the public is definitely invited.
When evening come, Shanghai truly shines and when hunger strikes this no shortage of possibilities from marvelous street foods to high cuisine. Just make sure you don’t miss 1221, the dining Room. It’s fine Chinese dining with a personal touch. The owner Michelle Lu has a terrific staff, a team of skilled artist producing beautiful work. The dishes designed to be like the once Miss Lu’s grandmother made for her when she was young, a superb. That elegant dining room is usually buzzling with Chinese locals who know where to find quality and also with—who did their homework and will definitely not regret this choice.
Back into the night, how about a return to the band with plenty of late night life versions await, night club, dancing, by the next stop Bar Rouge is a great choice. Here are the bar area and the glittering chandeliers hold center court while more discrete sitting light in the periphery. You might encounter detail to perhaps try outs and jazzy moves or enjoy performance out by daring young bartenders. As a final treat, step to the outside patio for some extraordinary views as the evening winds down.
Mathieu Brauer: We’re just on the curve of the rivers so we can see the above direction and with those skyscrapers in Pudong, you know Pudong it’s beautiful. I don’t know if you watch the movie Blade Runner and I was on some foreign blade runner everyday.
China’s most attractive city, Shanghai is the top into national destination. Modernization continues to transform the city into rapid pace which adds to the excitement. Fortunately, Shanghai remains a city at least for the moment where you can still lose yourself in the side streets and back alleys, visit ancient temples and get a feel for what could soon be a disappearing way of life.
