Treatment Options for Asthma

Asthma is treated by two different mechanisms. One is an anti-inflammatory treatment that is the main treatment. That’s the treatment that you would take every single day to control your asthma so, we call it a controller medicine. Those come in different forms. The most common one is an inhaled steroid. The other component of treatment is what we call rescue medicine or bronchodilators. What those medicines do is they open up your airways so on a one hand we’re treating the inflammation, on the other hand we’re sort of forcing the airways open.
