Male: A new survey finds that as children get older and leave nest empty, Canadian couples over 50 are gaining a new lease on life and returning to the spontaneity in intimacy enjoyed earlier in their relationship. In fact, 43 percent of couples 50 plus said that feeling less stressed has definitely had a strong positive impact on their sex life. Three quarters of respondents said spontaneity is important and more than half said they wished their sex life was more spontaneous. While this can be a time of increased freedom, it is also a time when issues such as ED become more prevalent. Dr. Stacy Elliott specializes in sexual dysfunction issues at the BC Center for Sexual Medicine.
Dr. Stacy: About a third of Canadian men do have some concerns about their rectal function and this can be because of physical condition or psychological issues and it has a big impact on the spontaneity of their sexual relationships.
Male: Dr. David McKenzie is a couples and sex therapist n Vancouver.
Dr. David: Canadians over 50 needs to remember that during these hard economic times, there is more to celebrate at home and in the bedroom, and thus, retirement looming, fewer stresses in life, your obligations at work and at home, children leaving the empty nest. This can really make a relationship better and enhance one’s sex life.
Dr. Stacy: Experiencing rectal dysfunction doesn’t mean the end of a fun and intimate sexual relationship as you age. There’s so many treatments available that you can go on and have an active and spontaneous sexual life.
