Triple Chocolate Frozen Ice Cream Pie Recipe
bettyskitchen
Hi I’m Betty. Welcome to Betty’s Kitchen. Today we’re making a special treat, it is
called triple chocolate ice cream pie and I’m going to get started here and making this on
father’s day for my husband because he likes ice cream treats much more than a cake that
I might make that says “Happy Fathers Day” and he’s not my father but I like to take care
of him and my daughter and her husband will be coming over later in the day to celebrate
Father’s Day with us.
You need a ready made crust and since I’m calling this triple chocolate one of the
chocolate flavors comes from a crust. You can buy these ready made. So what I’m going
to start with in the pie filling will be hot fudge topping. How rich can you get in terms of
flavor? Now we’re not watching calories today when we have a holiday or celebration or
something like that we don’t really pay that much attention to calories. So hot fudge
topping and I have already opened it this morning and gotten out 1/3 of a cup so I’m just
going to spoon that on to that pie crust and move that over and it will be fine.
Next thing I’m putting in is ice cream. Now I bought Edy’s Ice Cream and when I bought
it, it looked like this. It was 1-1/2 quarts. That’s how your half gallon has shrunk, half
gallon is 2 quarts but now they saw this— what they call half gallons and they’re really
1-1/2 quarts. What I did was just to cut through this and make a top as it is so it go back
in the freezer. I’ll do that in a second and in the meantime I can thaw out that ice cream.
No I don’t want to completely thaw it.
I just want it spreadable so that I will be able to put it back in the freezer and have ice
cream again so just whatever you need and I would make the most solid parts of it
because you don’t want it to runny or look freezing out it will be more like a popsicle or
fudge then that your ice cream but if you need that we’ll use it because we want it all the
way up to the top so let me just throw this around and then next step is to put it back in
the freezer and let that freeze solid. We have a little bit leftover there and I’ll see you
back for the finishing up of the triple chocolate pie.
We’re going to continue with our triple chocolate ice cream pie. Now it looks like this
after you put it in the freezer for a couple of hours I think maybe 2-1/2 hours so it’s pretty
solid. It might be a little soft on the top if I were to touch it but it just needs to be to the
point where I can continue putting toppings on. I’m going back to the hot fudge topping
and when you have that even at room temperature it’s going to be very stiff so what I
have done is put it in a microwave for a little bit and then let it. It got a little hot so I just
let it cool off.
I don’t want it to melt anything so it’s almost at room temperature but it’s not the point
where I can’t use it so you need to just play that back here so that you can manage to get
this spread along the top without melting what you have already worked on to get frozen
and you don’t want to mess with it too much or it will blend in with the ice cream. So I’m
just going to leave it like that. That’s fine for the topping. Next we have some whip
topping. This is just regular whip topping and it’s frozen when it’s purchased but you
need to let it sit in the refrigerator until it goes out and then you’re going to put that on
and I would suggest putting it on in little pieces just a spoonful at a time. Give me a
moment and I’ll get this covered for you and then we’ll come back for our topping.
So I have my topping on and I had it spread out and it’s pretty easy to do without messing
up anything underneath and then what we’re going to do is go to our chocolate pearls. I
did a little quick tip to show you how to make these so we’re not going in to detail on that
but just sprinkle these around and line up more flakes than curls. Just use whatever style
you like if you like them really rolled up a lot then use milk chocolate if you like them
flakier like this then use unsweetened chocolate and just use pairer to make those strips or
curls whatever you like there that’s good.
And then this last topping, these are the almonds that I showed you a little quick tip in
order to get them toasted nicely and that’s going to be our last layer here so just put as
many as you like on the top here. I don’t really have any other use for these so I’ll be
very generous with them and put them around and you see how easy this pie is to make.
It’s easy as pie meaning all you have to do is buy the crust already made. Put the ice
cream in after you have thawed it a little bit.
Spread it around and then that’s over the top of some hot fudge topping and then you
grease it and then you come out and put some more topping on it and some whip topping
and some garnish and it’s done. So this is my triple chocolate frozen ice cream pie that I
made for my husband for Father’s Day, my husband Rick and I hope he enjoys it and I
hope all of you enjoyed seeing it too.
