Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I am your host Derrick Schommer. Today, we’re going to create the Tropical Blizzard, which is really an oxymoron, rest and that is going to have not these guys, this is Haamonii Smooth, our sponsor. This is going to have some back at Cruzan this week. Cruzan! Coconut Rum; one ounce of Coconut Rum, Blue Curacao; one ounce of Blue Curacao, looks nice and new because it is. Oh, matching. It’s like curtains. And pineapple juice, apple juice; no scurvy and your vitamin A, one apple a day, this will do. I think that is true.
All right, we’re going to shake it. We’re going to strain it into a highball glass with ice. We’re good to go. Let’s do it. We’ll do the Curacao. So, it’s one in one of alcohols. And we’ll do that now. We pour into our other Curacao. So, I cracked open and this one is a different brand, this is Arrow. What was the other one? Bols? Bols. Both are good. I don’t think there’s a problem either way. I will drink any and all brands of Curacao because it is that awesome. It’s even given in article.
We’ll do a half ounce of apple juice just to really get a little sense of apply apples. And then oh it’s really going to be blue. And I will do an ounce and a half of orange juice. I got a craft here. The one we have remaining. Whooh! That is really neat looking. So, I don’t know, that is cool. I think this is really just all about—that is. I’ll buy it. Sea green; I like that. Let me throw some ice in here. I’ll have to say that does look sea green, stayed in the obvious. Shake it up. A little warm there. Let’s do it.
Whooh! Strain, no real garnish for this one however, if I was wise and thinking ahead; I believe what would look good on here is minty like, I don’t know like a slight orange wheel right on there. If you wanted to get really crazy, since it’s going to need color, put it in a cocktail glass with a orange twist. That might be neat. I don’t really know if the highball is necessarily the only thing you can put it in. We can do it in Collins glass with a lime orange something rather on there but there you go.
That is a Tropical Blizzard which smells like coconut. Not really sure what makes it a Blizzard; none are problem. We didn’t make the recipe. We just drink it. Oh, smooth; definitely smooth. No alcohol taste; really, I am not sure if there is a lot, 27% alcohol by volume. This is probably like 17, 18, 17%. So, it’s not in an incredibly intense drink. Good probably for those that aren’t into a massive amount of alcohol, don’t like the burn, don’t like that sensation but they really want to fit in maybe and drink a cocktail or somebody else might have something intense. It’s cool color; nice design, great flavors. You are getting really orange juice with some pineapple mixed in.
Apple? Maybe a little apple like mid pallet, nothing intense on apple, so I may nee d a little leftover apple. I think the coconut kind of really takes over near the end. Very smooth, very delicious. So, there you go. That is your Tropical Blizzard. I am your host Derrick Schommer. Hey! Check on my organization; rums, tequilas, gins. I’ve got—it’s all ready to go. I can find everything now. Anyway, we’re teaching you how to drink.
Don’t forget, we have a sponsor and this sponsor is Haamonii (harmony) Smooth Shochu. This is awesome. There’s two different types. You can get the citrus, no, I’m sorry, citrus lemon, lemon citrus. It’s the same thing really. It’s a lemon flavored shochu which smells very much like lemon, no alcohol burn. So, if you’re into I don’t know—don’t really get the offensive ethanol taste, you cannot go wrong with the shochu, at least a Harmony Shochu. I haven’t had any other shochu so I couldn’t tell you necessarily if they are all assaulting on the senses but this is awesome.
It’s only 22% alcohol by volume. So, it’s not like a—which is 40% but it could be substituted for all vodkas really. Unless you’re a huge vodka fan, you can drink it in a shochu sour. However you want to drink it, it’s growing. I predict it will be extremely popular within four years if these guys get into the market and get it in there. Hopefully we’re helping you giving some exposure to the brand and to the styles so that we have yet another alternative for a tasty beverage./
Again, I am your host Derrick Schommer and we’re teaching you how to drink Shochu. Tasty!
