There are so many good fish lost because of the poorly tied knot, or simply using the wrong knot for the job. So it is really worth getting to know your knots. Practice them and feel confident about tying them easily.
Now the tucked half blood knot is a really easy knot to tie. A reliable knot that we use for attaching eyed hooks and swivels.
We use the tucked half blood knot in preference over the standard half-blood knot because it is much more reliable especially on line to lines. Here is how we tie it.
For instruction purposes, I am going to use a large eye and heavy line. This will make you easy to see the knots it develops. So, pass the line through the eye, take it and align through.
(Demo)
We now need to take about between five and seven turns back around the main line.
(Demo)
There we go. Now, then, pass the tuck end back through the base of the knot through the loop just above the eye
(Demo)
And simply tuck the tag end back through that loop that largely for gain and tension the knot—just carefully at this stage.
(Demo)
Now ease the knot back towards the eye.
(Demo)
We now need to lubricate the knot.
Now lubricate the knot with saliva, this will actually help the knot to pull up and will stop the line from heating up when you pull it tight. Otherwise, the line will actually weaken and you can have a weak knot.
Tees the knot down,
(Demo)
And tension up.
There we have it.
Now, the simple matter of just trimming off the knot fairly close to the knot
(Demo)
And there you have it, a tucked half-blood knot.
You can practice this at home. Use an old line and to big hooks and used to tying that. And remember: A good knot means more fish on the bank.
