Honduras known for its incredible wildlife beaches and adventure will equally captivate you with its century’s old colonial architecture. In the city of Comayagua, lies the one of the churches in the country, the cathedral of Comayagua, inaugurated in 1711. The clock, the oldest in the Americas dates back to year 1100 when the Mores built it in Spain. Today, it rings every 15 minutes boasting the ancient roman numeral IV on the face.
The countries capital, Tegucigalpa, secured its place in the history as a silver mining center. Thanks to two churches with altar pieces yielded in silver and gold. The dirt road can yield spectacular sites like this distinctive colonial church in La Campa, a small town about an hour from Gracias.
Moving north to the town of Omoa, the San Fernando De Omoa Fortress stands proud, the Spaniards built it to protect the countries silver from the British pirates. History just doesn’t get more all inspiring than in doesn’t Honduras.
The Central America you know, the county you’ll loved.
