Male: At camp Virginia in the Kuwait desert, we were making over the USO tent for the troops. The troop cave was a huge bill with lots of projects going on.
Jason Cameron: There’s a lot going on; little nervous about it.
Male: When we made the storage room into a music room, there was a lot more to it than you saw on the show.
Jason Cameron: Okay, the food storage room was very appealing, it was nothing when I—and I don’t think anybody have went in there.
We make over the old book storage room, we added a seal. And put up some interior wall.
One of big parts of the bill was the music room. Whereas the soldiers were really looking forward to. Now a lot of these soldiers, these Marines and sailors and Air Force out here able to jam, play guitar, you know play the whatever instrument they play, we’re going to give them room to do it.
To make the new room into a music room, we had the sound proof it and here is how we did it. Sound proofing is not a difficult process at all and you don’t always have to insulate the inside of the wall to sound proofing. You can just treat the outside.
Now if you want, when you actually build your wall, when you’re framing your wall, you can insulate the inside before you actually put the drywall on, you can put some installation on the inside which is a sound-deadening insulation or you can do like were doing, it’s an empty cavity inside the wall. We’re just putting drywall up and then we’re insulating the outside of the wall.
To sound proof the room, first come up with a plan on how you want the panels to be laid out. Get acoustic panels that look like wall insulation, don’t knock down any sound. Next, apply a bit of construction adhesive to the back of the panel. Place them on the wall and then use a staple gun with two inch crown staples to secure the panels to the wall.
The sound panels we’re using from acoustical solution is great. It’s just a really thick material, they are 2 x 4, you just put them off, basically your staggering joints, put a little adhesive on the back, tack it in and there you go; you had a soundproof room.
These acoustic panels are fabric wrapped and come in either one or two inch thicknesses.
I think the room is incredible. I know the troops are happy with the room because everyone came up to me and we’re just a—you know they were just amazed by it. I am just really happy that they like it because I can see the look in their eyes and I can tell they want to get in there and use it, it’s all the information I need.
Male: Wow, let me just use wow. I mean the army turn for that is like hua.
Lt. Col. Garvey: It’s incredible. It’s complete in other transformation.
Captain Bronwyn Odhner: It is better than I expected. I have just—overwhelmed. It’s really, really good.
Male: When we got here, this room was nothing more than booth storage, now it’s rocking music room troops love.
