Well this is apparently went car companies come up with when they’re run by the government
the P.U.M.A, Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility. GM and Segway making a huge splash
on the eve of the New York auto show with this two person electric transporter that lies
somewhere between a wide in Segway and shorten to Rick Show. Underway it balances on the
time wheels like a Segway scooter but with two people looking go pick instead of just one.
Imagine it costing around 4 grand and crawling urban areas not highways for crying out loud.
It’s tap now at 35 miles per hour and does 35 miles on a single charge. GM and Segway make all
kinds of analogies to the internet with the P.U.M.A, who there network using a telemetric
version of on start to keep track of each other avoid collision automatically while driving in tight
efficient formations on crowded streets. No plans for production just yet, it might take a little
while to warm the public up this idea, but finally we have something the smart car can stair
down.
Google launches a million products at launch as usual. The UN library goes online and how to
get a jog doing nothing but twittering. Its Tuesday, April 21st I’m Natali Del Conte and it’s time
to get loaded.
We have several Google announcements today, first Google is launching the unimproved image
search. The feature is called similar images and now Google will be able to give you images that
look more like what you’re asking for through a single link. The example they give is jaguar, are
you looking for the car or the animal this will help you distinguish. Second the company is
launching Google News Timeline which is pretty much what its sounds like. You can now view
news for a given topic on the time line where you can scale by days, weeks, months and years.
You can also specify which source the information comes from like a newspaper or magazine.
And where will be put out this new innovation, Google labs is relaunching at googlelabs.com.
Built with Google’s own app engine the company is really hoping to engage audiences with new
features and then find tune them for proud releases.
In Youtube news the site is also testing out comment filtering. The company has been trying to
keep a squawky clean image for the past six months or so. They’re launching a new feature in
the US that let users set preferences to see all video comments, no video comments or filtered out
video comments. Although in my experience the comment trolls will not go away just because
you’re not reading what they have to say. Sony’s new line of MPC players are essentially
rocking out little USB sticks. The colorful of new lineup coming to four and eight gig models
and will cost less than $150. They have an LCD display, FM radio and three hours of battery life
with just of three minute charge. They launch on May 16th in Japan I don’t trust Google
translator enough to be able to tell when they’re launch in the US lost Jasmine friends when the
west cost wakes up.
If you live in Washington DC you may soon be able to get free digital TV on your cell phone.
Later this year local affiliate from CBS, NBC, PBS, and INN Fox will begin offering there
broadcast of mobile devices including phones, laptops and in car entertainment systems. This
was announce that the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas but which gadgets will
support this not that many yet but manufacturers such as LG and Samsung are working on it.
This is something that supposed to be rolled out nationally but the cities that will see it soon is
are New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Boston and Atlanta. The entire United
Nations library is now online and available for all to see, this is a digital library with information
about human, cultures and history. This is a four year project and it has novelties such as the
Japanese works that’s consider the first novel in history and the words of Eric Scholars that was
ground breaking in the field of algebra, it really is an archeological treasure throb. It will be
inaugurated in Paris today at the Headquarters of UNESCO the UN Educational Scientific in
Cultural Organization but you can find it in seven languages right now at wdl.org.
Fox news is integrating you report with MySpace, you report is Fox as users submitted service
where anyone can send in stories, photos or videos about breaking news that they witness.
MySpace is of course own by news corp which also owns Fox. Now the two work together, you
can browse other people submissions or submit your own content at myspace.com/ureport. This
is a lot like CNN’s iReport which accepts submissions mobile or over Facebook. Rise in files
costumers can help program that DVR from the web this is convenient if you forget to set it to a
record something and your way at work or vacation. Tibo has had this capability for a long time
but most cable companies do not offer this service. Now all files TV, DVR costumers can do this
from the web and home media costumers can even do it from there cell phones.
The today show how’s the new iPhone application which I think its worth mentioning even
though I report for the competing morning show. The applications brings highlights and clips
from the days four hour broadcast because presumably not many people sit there and watch the
entire four hour show. The application was develop by a company called Zoom Movie. The iPod
touch and iPhone are being use in battle and Baghdad, news week reports that the US military
has been using Apple’s hot little gadget to equip soldier with intelligence such as Arial images
and translation software. These programs can provide maps, photos, bring villagers free tape
video messages and give intelligence on local statistics. Although they aren’t very ragged exhibit
A my crack iPhone’s screen and have to think that I am hurt on my iPhone and then the soldier
right. If you are looking for an internship you may consider pizza hut if you like to twitter. The
pizza chain is looking for an intern to help them disseminate pizza news to the masses. A
representative for the company told the New York Times that this lucky person will be the
company’s social media journalist, chronically in 140 characters are less what’s going on at
Pizza Hut they need the entire person to do that or what kind of job will an internship like that
land you from twitter intern to twitter executive, vice president of twitter relations?
A lot of viewers are starting to send in there in flight Wi-Fi speed test. South West Airlines
recently and he got download speeds of 2823 kilobits per second and upload speeds of 179
kilobits per second, not too savvy. If you are glove riding and use an in flight Wi-Fi network
send us your speeds will keep track of the various airlines and there results here on loaded send
them to load at cnet.com. Those are your headlines for today but I will see you tomorrow thank
you for watching. I’m Natali Del Conte with CNET TV and you’ve just been loaded.
What’s up I’m Brian Tong and welcome to the Applebyte. Will giving you all the good and the
bad inside the world of Apple so let’s get to the stories. Now for your all number crunchers will
start of the Apple quarterly earnings report so might be thinking but there is some nugget to pull
from this. Apple posted its best none holiday quarter ever in Q3 of 2009 with $8.34 billion in
revenue and the net quarterly profit of $1.23 billion the rock stars will Apple ship 2.6 million
maps which is the 4% increase year over year and hat iPhone 5.2 million units were solve at just
about a modest 626% from last year. Now the Big A solve 10.2 million iPods but that was 7%
dropped year over year. Analyst just won’t let go about the idea of Apple releasing a low cost PC
and here is what Tim Cook have to say about that.
It has not than good week for Boxee users, an update to the Apple TV yesterday breaks
compatibility with there party add on like Boxee. It looks like Apple finally cut on to the media
center software and decided they do not want you to watch cool online videos on your TV so if
you want to keep your Boxee going don’t upgrade your Apple TV firmware. Netflix more or less
confirm that it will begin offering the streaming only service. Rumors about they started
circulating last week and the company CFO Barry McCartney discuss it on Wednesday, he said
were like to do that and the foreseeable future which stands promising to me. It would mean that
you can’t get a Netflix account without ever having to get a physical DVD in the mail you just
subscribe to stream the movies in the Netflix blog instantly application.
Microsoft is taking Tomtom to court for pattern infringement, the company releases the
statement on Wednesday same they have filed an action against the GPS Company for infringing
an intellectual property related to in car navigation technology and other computing
functionality. The statement implied that they had tried to settle out of court but in agreement
could not be reaching. There were no details about specifically which technology was infringe
but I’m guessing it has to do with Microsoft sink.
Alaska Airlines is joining the ranks of airlines that offer in flight Wi-Fi, this will be a satellite
base service from a company called Row 44. It will be free for the first 60 days while being
tasted in flight between settle and San Jose if the trial is successful it will be rolled out to the
airlines entire flight but it won’t be free. If you get on one of this flight do a speed test and send
us your results load it at cnet.com. On Tuesday Gmail was down for 2 ½ hours, users of the
Google Apps premiers of service are being compensated the whole $2 and 5 cents for there time.
According to the terms of service you should also get an extra three days of service but Google
will extend that to 15 days out of there own generosity. In more Gmail news the company has
added a new feature, this time you have the option of moving the inbox count before the word
Gmail in the title bar of your browser. So if you have a bunch of tabs open you can easily see
how many unread emails you have.
A few weeks back we mentioned of the, I am reach application that was available for a modest
$999 on iTunes, it was basically away for reach people to prove that they had money to burn and
socially network with like minded posters. As you can imagine few people were amused and it
was fold from iTunes apps stare pretty quickly. Now the app has weird its pretentious head in the
android market but the developers have apparently learn there lesson, they lower the price to
$200 what bargain. If your laptop installing you maybe able to set it to irritate the heck out of the
teeth until they either destroy it or bring it back to you. A program by front door software called
Retriever will flash a really annoying yellow message on your laptop screen every 30 seconds if
the machine has been reported stolen. It will also say out loud stolen laptop over and over and
over again this cannot be turn off unless you log in to the website and disconnect it yourself. The
laptop itself will know it’s stolen because you have reported it on the website and when the
machine is turn on it will look for near by Wi-Fi signals in order to push out the message the
program cost $30. Well it certainly is a deterrent for thief is it really going to get someone to
bring you your computer back what do you expect the laptop on your doorstep with the note it
says, sorry I try to use it but it bug the crap so I’m getting it back not likely. Those are your
headlines for today and that wraps up your week of getting loaded but before I go I want to wish
you happy birthday to Marty, Sebastian, James and JC. I will see all of you next week or later
today and tomorrow on Buzz out Loud. Thank you for watching I’m Natali Del Conte with
