Natalie: Hi my name is Natalie and I am doing a video today about what you always here about, you hear about nutritionist, you hear about nutrients you know in which nutrient foods you hear about, you know nutrition is something that you need for health and all these things are talking about nutriention and nutrients and I just want to talk today about what nutrients are so we actually know if you we are talking about when they tell us about nutritionist and nutrients and session.
So hopefully this video today will clear your up any questions you may have and you'll be able to change your diet and become healthier. So your body is made up of nutrients, nutrients are the building blocks that your body needs to really do anything or can build anything or to repair tissue or to make yourself any of those things required nutrients in order to function. So again I will do is to think about if you trying to build a building and you don't have bricks or if you don't have any cement or if you don't have any wood how would you really build that building and how it would be functioning complete building without those materials. Well that's the same way that you can look at our bodies if we don't have the nutrients that we need we are not going to be complete we are not going to be healthy and we are not going to have optimal functioning if you don't have the right nutrients.
The first categories vitamins, so what is a vitamin you see it every where so all these products cereals, frozen foods, package foods they even have vitamin water now, so what is vitamin? Well a vitamin is just the chemical compound that actually aids the body and functioning. And some examples are going to be your B vitamins which aid in energy and metabolism then you have another vitamin like vitamin C that is going to be even important for immune function so those are just 2 types of vitamins and there is a lots of different kinds one is essential and another type is non essential, non essential nutrients are going to be nutrients that your body makes and so you don't necessarily have to have it in your diet, but essential nutrients and essential vitamins must be in your diet in order for you to have the best health other wise you are going to have some sort of deficiency.
So for example If you are deficient in vitamin C and back in you know 100 of years ago people when are coming across the ocean and ships they would have scurvy because they didn't eat any fresh foods and vegetables so they wont getting enough vitamin C. so that's just an example If you are not getting in your diet you can actually have health consequences and symptoms from your body not having the right vitamin. And then also it's important to realize that some vitamins influence the absorption of other vitamins. For example now Iron and calcium are vitamins but they do influence the way that each other absorbs, so if you have a low iron diet that actually you can have low absorption of calcium in your diet and vice versa.
The second category is minerals and minerals are this micro nutrients meaning that you just need smaller quantities of the minerals then you would of the vitamins and some examples that minerals are calcium iron magnesium zinc phosphorus so all these types of chemical compounds are also in foods and aid and the whole body working properly all your organs all your nerves systems, circulatory systems, everything in your body is going to require some types of minerals to function.
Carbohydrates is the next category and carbohydrates actually provide the main energy or main fuel that your body needs to function another words if you eat a piece of bread you actually will have a certain amount of time after that your body will get a lot of energy from it. So lot of people write before they workout though you know eat certain amount of carbs in order to give them selves energy to workout. And then also carbohydrates are composed of sugars now lot of times when you hear sugar you may think okay I know I ma suppose to avoid sugar but there is actually good sugars that your body needs.
For example glucose which found in breads and grains and then you have fructose which is found in fruits and then you have galactose which is sugar that is found in milk and a lot of people that are on these atkin's types diets who are eliminating the carbohydrate intake and a lot of times there is no carbohydrates in their diet at all, they are actually going to affect their brain function because your brain uses 20% of your energy so you may think, you know the first think you will think of about using energy is your muscles working you know you are running you are doing cardio workout but apart from that your brain is actually using a lot of energy that your body produces. And so you have food that you have to have carbohydrates in your diet otherwise you are going to effect till your brain works.
Water is the next category and yes water is the nutrient a lot people don't realize that water is a nutrient. In other words if you are not drinking water you are actually keeping your body from getting the nutrients that it means. So water is actually the largest component of all your body tissues, so you are basically more water than anything else and also the brain needs 90% water. So that's going to crazy to think about if your brain is 90% water and you don't drink enough water then you can actually impact how your brain is functioning.
And then also water is actually used to just build cell walls so it's used in the structure of walls, so your cell walls are going to be as strong as they should be if you don't drink enough water. I consider water is super nutrient basically water is needed so that all the other nutrients can be absorbed and utilized. So if you don't have water in your diet your are not drinking enough you are not going to be as healthy as you could be, and also water is essential for other steps of nutrients, in other wards how effective you digest your foods how well you are absorbing the nutrients how well you are transporting all the nutrients and then also water is going to impact how you eliminate. And other cool fact to know is that 10% water change in your body so in other wards if you loose 10% of your water weight you actually can have significant health problems, and that's documented research you know you can feel it and its out there you'll definitely going to know that there is something different.
Something's going on in your body and that's just based on 10% water walls. 20% water walls actually results in that. So 10% loss is actually pretty easy to do especially with I think the majority of people don't drink enough water on daily basis now when your body needs water you actually will start craving it. And there a lot of people think the first indicator would be thirst, you know if I get thirsty okay I am going to drink some water. But actually you get a certain percentage of the water that your body needs from the foods you eat, so actually the first thing you may sense and feel is actually hunger not thirst.
So if you are you know on a weight loss program lot of times they will tell you start drinking a lot of water and the reason behind that not only because its going to help the metabolism and other source of things but you'll actually reduce your hunger pains and then people who are drinking enough water, they'll actually eat when they are hungry thinking that its you know actually hunger and it not thirst, and then you are getting all these excess calories just to meet the demand that their body needs for water.
The funniest thing I have heard is when I tell some one drink more water and then say well I keep going to the bathroom all the time and yes your water impacts how often you urinate and how often you have bowel movements but that should be a sign to you that water actually is facilitating your digestive process and then thus help you so don't stop drinking water just because you don't have time to go to bathroom, and if you are constipated drink more water because when you do it actually will influence your body to have more bowel movements.
