Michael Callahan: Hi, this is Michael Callahan doctor file finder and welcome back to our special Butterscotch.com ten parts series on understanding your router. Now in this segment we are going to look at Mac addresses. Now Mac address is a unique identifier the sign to network adaptors and network interface cards stands for media access control address. Every computer on your wireless network has a Mac address back in our router setting you were look under wireless, wireless security, wireless filtering here and the link this router is wireless Mac filter.
Once again keep in mind, this is a links router but if your brand of router differs you still have something similar in your wireless set up in the router, you see hereby default is disabled then click enable and we are going to - couple of options, we can either push that listed Pc's from accessing the wireless or you can take another way of looking added and permit only PC's listed to access the network, so we click edit the Mac filter less, click here wireless client Mac client and here it showing the Mac address, so I could say enable, enable, enable. Like say update the filter list and now only these Mac addresses will be able to access my wireless network doesn't matter if you know the SSID doesn't matter if you know the key to access in network.
If you Mac address isn't in this list then you can't access the wireless network, so this is yet another way that you can limit the access to your wireless network by permitting only the devices in your wireless network based on Mac address or you can prevent those from accessing the wireless network, so this is how you can use the Mac address to further secure your wireless network, keep you may wants to go this is one part of a ten part series on understanding your router, you should check out all he parts.
