Michael Callahan: Hi, this is Michael Callahan doctor file finder and welcome back to our special Butterscotch.com, ten parts series on understanding your router. This segment we are going to be briefly look at router administration. Once again this is a Linux user router but that if you have a different brand you will have somewhere in the router set up software and administration tab.
Basic management we are going to change your password to support they have a secure password and when that you could remember then you need to help with that and if you look at the tutorial we have on picking good passwords you can elect to enable or disable web access. You can also enable remote management so you can log into your router from a remote location.
The universal plug in play feature is used by some programs to open ports for communication, you can also look at a log, it can unable it or disable it. Run diagnostic ping and traceroute, you can also restore the router to its factory defaults. Firmware upgrade accepts it will cover at another time, and configuration management you can back up and restore your routers configuration, so this is a brief overview of the routers administration.
For the most part you don't need to change anything in here occasionally you will want to firmware upgrade but again we'll cover that in a future serial. So, this is another segment of our ten part series and understanding your router, which are check out all ten parts.
