Danny Grady: Now, the most common problem of Jazz when you try to do this as a beginner or for the first time, is keeping that 3rd string muted, sometimes you will get those guys ringing. Well what I do is I take the very tips, the very tops of my fingers are doing the bend but the nail or the part of the skin on your finger between your nail and the tips of your finger with just barely touching the string above the 3rd string.
Never underestimate just barely touching your string that you will get rid of whatever kind of open string ringing that you have, and as I come back down, those parts of my fingers be at the nail or be at the flesh on the top of my fingers, they never ever loose contact with the string above and that affectively gets rid of that open string. Also another thing that you might want to think about is your palm here. You palm at anytime, you can just kind of slam it down on those strings and you will get rid of any kind of unwanted ringing.
So let's try that up. Let's try and move this up; move the whole thing up, a whole of two frets so that your first finger is on the 9th fret on the 1st string. Your third and second and your third finger here on the 12th fret at the 2nd string and again use your first as a kind of your pivot point which you are going to pivot on, your thumb is for leverage to help you pull up, keep your first finger where it's at, and then just bend. You will notice we have a whole step interval here, real tense sounding and as we bend up, the tension goes away.
Scotty Moore: Hi! I am Scotty Moore. She came back and handed me this slip of paper and I looked at it and I said, "Elvis Presley what kind of damn name is that?"
And the idea is to play D Sharp Major chord here on baring the 6th fret string 1 through 5 and I have got the third finger across the 8th fret at strings 2, 3 and 4.
