Hi, this is Mike Callahan, “Dr. File Finder and welcome to your Butterscotch.com series on Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7.
In this segment we’re going to look briefly at gathering the programs that you use the most. But this can be done a couple of ways. For some people who do a fresh clean install, they backup their data and then they reinstall all of their programs and load in the data. That way they have a fresh, clean version of the program.
In other cases you may want to do a regular backup form few excellent programs here, I put lengths in the show notes, Image for Windows, can do a compete image, restore individual programs and files, Macrium reflect, those are the same and SyncBack and SyncBackSE. So these are the three programs that you can use to do a backup.
If you’re going to do the other way, make a list of the program you use most by going through your computer and looking. Make the list, download the programs and put them on in extra hard drive, a USB thumb drive, a DVD and that way you have them ready. Another thing you have to be sure of is that before you backup only data, you have to be certain that the program can import the data once you’ve reinstall the program.
So these are the things that you have to do. Gather the programs that you use either by downloading them and putting them on a drive to be ready for installation on Windows 7 or backup the programs and data you use most so that you’re able to reinstall it onto Windows 7.
Keep in mind this is a multiple part series and be sure to watch all of the parts.
