Don: Hi, I am Don from Crystal Minnesota. I have heard that the artificial sweetener aspartame used in some diet sodas can cause cancer, is this true? Maureen Kilfoil: Well Don, artificial sweeteners have actually been around since the world wars. It wasn't until then 1970s that the question of cancer came up. Since then many, many studies have been done on its safety, the general consensus is that it is safe and it remains in our food supply system.
