Middles Blocking
Emily is going to cross over and scoot, nice and full, see it again Emily. So Emily is right in the middle, she is going to -- slow Emily. So she is right here, nice and slow. She slowly crosses over, and then she scoots. Lands on both feet, she is square to the net, her hands are square, and then she jumps. Good! When our middles jump, they jump slightly, so their hands are not together, we want to open them up. Nice. Emily's hands look just like this. You want to take the shot.
At one point, do you teach your attackers to hit straight? No, you teach them to hit angle or line. So why are we blocking straight then? Just open up, just a little bit, to get more touches. Since we have done this we have got more touches, and we still stop a lot of balls. Emily still leads the team and blocks.
Now let's see Becka and Emily do the same thing, they are going to go in opposite direction. So Becka is going to come this way and Emily is going to go that way. Go ahead. Good Becka, scoot and jump. They come back in the opposite way, cross over, scoot, jump. Good!
Now, let's say Becka was faked out, she thought Emily was going to run to C, so Becka shuffles over here, from the middle, she shuffles over here, waiting for Emily. Let's say the setter, who is right here, sets Julie. Now Becka is this far away, and she has got to get there fast. So she steps, with her close foot, turning her toe that way. She crosses over, then she scoots, and then she jumps. So that's a step, cross over, scoot.
Let's see, nice and slow, track, now release. Step, cross over, scoot. Good! Let's have Emily do it.
Emily track a B or a C from Becka too. So she tracks, step, cross over, scoot. Can I have my outsides off please and right sides off?
Their job is to track and get all the way to the sideline. We want to work on really getting that scoot as far as we can. So Emily is going to go first. She is going to track a C, and Emily is going to go first and track a C, and then come back here.
Go ahead Emily. Come on, get all the way, come on, come on. She is going to scoot all the way out.
Now Becka is going to track a C, and then go, step, cross over, come on, get up. Good! Now lets track a B Emily, and then go. Track a B. Now, come on, come on Becka, come on, come on. Good!
We will do that five times each.
