Using One Perennial To Hide Another

[Music playing] Welcome to this Growing Wisdom in this weeks tip. I was speaking with the administrative assistant where I teach school and she was asking what do I do in terms of my bleeding heart. See it is like kind of goes by and then there was this big space. So we put a Ligularia in front of the bleeding heart and if I had to choose one perennial that maybe my favorite perennial, these will probably it. I love the brilliant orange color, it is spectacular, the bees also love it as you can see and it also have this wonderful big leaves. There are dark green with this purple tint to them, the stocks of the plant, a brilliant purple. The leaves are so nice and big, it looks very tropical. It also re-seeds itself, I got one that reseeded itself back in another part of the garden that I did not plant but what I want you notice is how the bleeding heart is now basically done its flap. Over, the leaves are beginning to turn. If this is what you saw in the front of your garden it would not be really attractive but I put the Ligularia in front of that plant in order to kind of hide what was going on. I do not want to be able to know that this guy is kind of dying out for the season. Instead, you have this wonderful color in front. That is the same thing we do with bulbs, we put the bulbs in between plants or behind plants and as the season goes on we will hide the fading bulb leaves, so something to keep in mind.
