It would be so much easier to be irate on this video if the power is the fee or misguided. They are not. I have let them state their case so they can tell you why things are the way they are. They have created their share of positive innovations.
Our system is completely under next bus so you may go on your cell phone or on your computer and you can find out where every single bus on every single line is. This is the smart card. These are all the operators who take the card and unlike the Bay Area you may have either an e-person here which is just you put cash on here and it is just the index right there and it is time to get on the bus where you can buy a monthly cash that you can used online all of these bus system to go any where in the county unlimited and this is the contact list. It also has a contact chip in there so if you end up going on somebody else’s system you can force interrupt ability through the contact portion of it.
Of course, you have it but as I said this is the most advance in the United States and they are trying to copy this in the Bay Area. They are putting in the systems similar to this in Seattle. We have been able to do this for quite a while and similarly with next bus again because we have a fairly gadget oriented county, people used that. We have one disappointment with what we have and managed that we used to have an excellent and state of the art transit routing system in this county and our transit router that we put on the internet was sold all over the United States to Washington and to the Bay Area but when MTA came along their executive director wanted to bring in the system that they had in Dallas which time they worked and I have gone to three interruptions.
Meantime, in the Bay Area is now upgrading the system that we put up in line in 1994. and so it is being upgraded that way and hope we will not be able to go back to that because the transit router that is on our web site and part of the router seven county in the area is frankly dysfunctional.
We have an excellent one that work here and not only that, we also had added an Spanish translation so we get Spanish-English. We are people all over the US using that system but we are the flea on the end of the dog and the operating funding is not there and LA wanted something else so every body in southern California went along with that.
We are hoping that we would be able to get them onto what is going to go on the Bay Area that will make the system once again functional but that is going to take time to do. Again, we probably had in this county with the exception of the highway side, we are again is limited by the dollars that we have available to us. Some of the most advanced what they call ITS (Intelligence Transportation System) activities in the transit system around and as I said what we have done with the best system is to attempt to make it so that we will removed the mystique or the mystery from using a bus because people out here who lived here all their lives and were not used to using the buses.
They grew up in the East Coast, the bus is normal but it is not necessarily normal here so we are trying to encourage ridership and we are doing great. As I said, it is 10-12% in a year on a bus system.
I am not the only person. I have read about the limitation and I am far more accepting than the rider of this proceeding.
The day that we have indicates that we are growing ridership here,we are one of the fastest growing ridership in the United States. We are in the top 20 in terms of people getting on the bus and when we are doing that because we make the buses as convenient as we can to them and while it may not seem much to you by comparison to what was here, we made great strives and we continue to make them every year.
And we cannot just make them wade a magic wand and say you are going to be a bus rider.
