Walt Ribeiro: All right, so what is up guys, Walt Ribeiro here and Roblatt over here. We have a question here that is all about vibrato technique. So, there are three ways that I think to get a vibrato.
Roblatt : The only technique that I know for vibrato is when I play guitar, I push down way too hard. So, when you do that, it makes vibrato near impossible.
Walt Ribeiro: The broken string classic guitar.
Roblatt : Nice.
Walt Ribeiro: It is really nice.
Roblatt : But when you are playing, you just push down way too hard, there is no way that you have to lose this and that finger in order to even move it or in order to do anything. If you are so intense with what you are doing, then you have to shift everything.
Walt Ribeiro: Well because then you are very stocked to the fret board.
Roblatt : Yes, it is like you planted it. It is like in football, in basketball, yes you give it a foot.
Walt Ribeiro: But that also creates tone, I mean if I push harder down on the strings, it is going to create a different tone, a different tamper like sound. So when you are using vibrato or something, you are actually not just changing tones but you are also changing the pitch because you are vibrating it.
Roblatt : Yes.
Walt Ribeiro: Interesting.
Roblatt : So what are the three that you know off?
Walt Ribeiro: The three ways that I know that you can change or create vibrato, one of course is your barre. That is a very extreme vibrato.
Roblatt : That is an early guitar.
Walt Ribeiro: Yes right, so that is the first way. The other way is using your finger. Now if people are not familiar with how to do it, all you have to do is that you simply take your finger. There are two ways of doing it with your finger. It is either going up and down or you can go left and right. That is the idea of using your left hand and then the third way is through a slide.
Roblatt : That was the Metalica song “Until it sleeps”. In the recording, they actually just bounce the guitar in the neck back and that is how they have that whole chord vibrato rather than whammy bar. They just bend the neck.
Walt Ribeiro: But the same physics are happening when you are doing the barres like this.
Roblatt : Absolutely, it is more metal. It is like trying to break the guitar.
Walt Ribeiro: Right.
Roblatt : By the way, new Metalica songs have been debuting all week and they are all good, they are all good. It is a mix between. It is the album that should have happened between “Justice” and the “Black Album”.
Walt Ribeiro: Is that what they are saying?
Roblatt : They got the best producers in the world, they do.
Walt Ribeiro: The production of the S&M album is Tuesday. One of the best produced albums I have ever heard.
Roblatt : You think so?
Walt Ribeiro: I definitely think so.
Roblatt : Well that is the orchestra kid will say.
Walt Ribeiro: No, it is not the orchestra kid. You know what, that CD changed my life.
Roblatt : Yes?
Walt Ribeiro: Yes and I was not even learning orchestra music until I was like 20. I bought that CD when I was like 16 and you do not realize but in foresight or in hindsight, the affect of what you do—
Roblatt : I would love to have 20/20 foresight.
Walt Ribeiro: Yes but then you know everything about it. You know like when you are going to die. You know where you are headed and that kind of life would not be so fun.
Roblatt : All right, 20/30.
Walt Ribeiro: 20/30 like you could see five years. Let us get some questions, I do not know that much about it. But it says in number like it says six, you put your finger on the sixth fret. Yes, that is how tab works, if there is a sixth there, you put your finger on the sixth fret. That is how you play it. Would you hold?
Roblatt : Sure.
Walt Ribeiro: Walt, can you help me then? Yes, we sure can help. That is what we do. Multiple strings? Yes, there is a recording on it. So hammers, slide etc? Yes, it is all there. Go to my archive. Let me throw this down, big ups to James on top of things.
My archive is right here, it is going to be throwing down. So go to WaltRibeiro.net/archive, tha
