This time on Tips and Tricks, we’ll be showing you the step by step uploading process of how to get your videos online to quite a few different video sharing sites. There are a lot of different format requirements for uploading the video sharing sites.
Resolution
Recommended: 1280 x 720 (16x9 HD) there is no required minimum resolution. In general the higher resolution, the better and HD resolution is preferred. For older content, lower resolution is unavoidable.
Bit Rate
Because a bit-rate is highly dependent on codec, there is no recommended or minimum value. Videos should be optimized for resolution, aspect ratio, and frame rate rather than bit rate.
Frame Rate
The frame ratio of the original video should be maintained without re-sampling. In particular pulldown and other frame rate re-sampling techniques are strongly discouraged.
Codec
H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred. Codec MP3 or AAC preferred. Sampling rate, 44.1 kHz. Channels, 2 (stereo).
In this case, we’ll be uploading to YouTube so we can go ahead and render our file as MPEG-2 as that’s what they recommend but most video sharing sites can handle multiple types of video. Rename the file so it’s easier to locate later on. We log in to our account and click the upload link. Click video file as click capture is for web cams. We then select the clip that we want to upload. Now as our file begins to upload, we can fill in the description box to tell the audience what our video is about. We save our changes in letter video upload. Once the video is uploaded, there are many different parameters that we can set for our video.
Privacy, here we can decide of whether to share our video with the world or you restrict it to a select group of YouTube friends. Comments, this is the way you can decide how you want comments to work ranging from that anyone say or anything they want down to no one being able to comment at all about your video. You can also allow people to vote on the comments deciding whether or not they’re useful. Video responses, this selection allows you to decide whether to allow video responses to your own video or not, much like commentating within a video rather than text form. Ratings, this allows you to turn on and off the star rating system that allows people to rate you video from one star to five stars. Embedding, this allows you to decide whether you want to allow other sites the ability to embed your video in their own web pages. Syndication, this so enable YouTube to show your video on other devices such as cell phones and video on demand. Dating map, this interesting feature allows you to add the day and place of the video shot into the YouYube database. This data ends up on a variety of interesting places such as Google Earth and let you view video shot at a certain location.
When our video is finish, we go to our clips by clicking to go my videos link and wait for up to finish processing. Once its finish, our thumbnail shows up and we’ll check to make sure our clip is uploaded properly. And it looks like our video is been uploaded so let’s continue to move to another video sharing site.
Now let’s take a look at Vimeo. Again, to upload the video, just click the upload link. While we check the settings to make sure that we are using the right format, you will notice the H.264 should be used to our codec and AAC for the audio. For the video size, select 1280 x 720 for all high definition clips. Vimeo allows you to upload and view clips in high definition making them much nicer to watch. You will need the faster network connection to see them smoothly. What’s nice about Vimeo is that it gives us the expected time for uploads and the tag box. So we can write down a couple of items that viewers might be searching for and what will lead them to our video. Once it’s an uploading we again go to my videos to check it.
It looks good and since we’ve been certain of the tag video maker, now we will go to the search engine and type in video maker, the first video that pops up is ours. Once again, some of the options we can set for our video like directly to the left side of our screen. Privacy again deciding who you wan to see the video allowing people the option of downloading on adding your video and whether or not you want them to post comments about your video. Credits, a function that allows you to credit those appearing on the video. The add two options allow you to add the video to a group channel or album, and you can also add photos to go along with your video taking directly from flicker.
For Metacafe, the same process applies. We click submit and then choose our file. We can select the rating for our video. In this case, it’s suitable for everyone as well as give it a category to fall into so that they can reach the right demographic.

Once our video is done uploading, one of the nicer features in Metacafe is that it let you pick from quite of your friends to use as the thumbnail for your video.

Now that we understand how to upload our videos, it’s time to go out there and upload videos of your own.
