The United States became involve in Vietnam both militarily and politically during World War II. At the start of the World War II, the Japanese seeking to exploits the vast resources of Southeast Asia, occupied French-Indochina.
Between 1941 and 1945, the effective resistance to the Japanese in the French-Indochina, was that of the belief in this communists known as the Viet men. To help the Viet men and there leader Hochimen fight the Japanese.
The United States supplied the Viet men with arms and ammunition. In return, the Viet men supplied the United States with military intelligence concerning the Japanese and help rescue down American Pilots.
By 1945, the Viet men had won control over a large part of Vietnam’s Northern Tanking Province and had seized the Capital City of Hanoi.
On September 2, 1945, the same day that the Japanese formally surrendered to the Allies, Hochimen proclaimed Vietnam’s Independence from France.
