James Meynell: We are at Viva Saloon I’m James the manager, were based in Lexington Street, London so home of the center of the creative hub. Were quite new saloon around here, were slightly different in the way that we specialize in lots of red carpet events, wedding hair, music videos and things like that.
So I had the idea that women might like to arrive a little bit early in town before they go out and they could come here and they could almost like absolute free drinks, party but have their hair done together for the vintage party. And then that’s how they sort of became a hand package. We did it a few times and we realized that people might actually like this as an event, for example, this Saturday we have a bunch of people coming in at eight in the morning getting blow dries and they are going to wedding down the road.
So yeah, we do a lot of group booking like that. Behind me here we have three young ladies who are on a hen night and have decided against the traditional policemen’s hat and those feather bows and they’re going for a 1930’s, 40’sort of Boulder Ville theme here. All right, this is Laura and she is styling Hannah today, so what can you tell me about the hairdo?
Laura: Well basically were going to create the finger wave effect going to the front, so it’s going to be quite flat on the head. Through the back, we are just going to create nice big curls for quite a dramatic look.
James Meynell: This is Shawn, she is styling Francesca and do you have any inspiration for this, did you look at any magazines or on the internet?
Shawn: I had to look at the Vargas girls posters and I drew the picture from them. Were doing a fringe, around fringe at the front and just some really big curls coming down, I think it would be nice with a simple dress.
James Meynell: So your styling Catherine?
Female: Yeah, so basically were doing some finger waves on the front and then at the back were going to spin out and so were going to make kind of hair up but not very up just quite down. And the theme is it goes into a really big distress but it is very closet.
James Meynell: Lots of girls like the sort of Josephine Baker waves, lots of people watch lots of Western, takes the ideas from that or the Vargas posters, which are more leaning towards 40’s. I think quite a lot of time we do it lots in between mobile one and two so merely 30’s but I think a lot of the stars here today are going to be 40’s. Four ladies can come or eight ladies or six and they can group book the whole saloon, so they go the whole place by themselves. We provide champagne; we provide amazing music, which I actually like myself. We provide amazing here and it’s a lot cheaper than people coming individually are. If they come as a gang then it’s sort of like a Motley crew, they can loud and boisterous.
Yes, its 40 pounds per person and that generally is an hour long, that’s including all of the champagne as well. What have you done with Katherine here?
Female: Yeah, we pinned the hair and just sprayed that and just like let it go away.
Laura: Okay, my inspiration was from the 1940’s pin up girls, so I just created a fringe by back grooming and tucking it under and then we put on hot rollers into the rest, just waited for them to cool down, and then just gave it a nice texture at the end.
Shawn: So this is inspired by the 1930’s, 40’s, just basically smooth from the top then pulled down at the bottom to give the effect of that voluptuous pro teens and I just used the hot rollers and then smooth out the top and rinse this off. To give that little back game at the bottom just to rinse this off, smooth the curls at the ends.
James Meynell: All right guys, have a lovely hairdo and see one of you next year.
Females: Cheers.
