This is a 10-month old Vishala dog, the male’s range from 22 to 24 inches of the shoulder. I’d say they have a gentle manner here but they really don’t have a gentle manner, they’re just very—they like to be with their people commonly referred to as the Belle Crew dog. Wherever you are, they are particularly the males, they say that they’re versatile breed because they are at home, in the field is they are in your living room and that was the reason that I bought one in the first place.
My husband was a hunter and I wanted a dog that wasn’t going to be too overwhelming that would be nice at home and that’s what, that’s how they were advertised. They were breathing hungry. They were recognized by the American Cantel Club in 1960 so we are coming up on our 50th year of recognition.
Lot of times you’ll see two different types of Vishalas. We had Vishalas that were bred for upland game which is the birds so that would be quail and peasant and chukker and those generally, those dogs were hunted on the plains in Hungary and so they were a little bit, maybe a little bit lighter built dog. And then there were other Vishalas that were more in the forest of Hungary and those dogs are a little bit heavier boned and they were used to hunt large game like deer and elk and things like that. So, that’s why sometimes you’ll see there’s a difference in the Vishala that some of you stock your dog and some will be a little bit lighter on their feet.
They are good family pet but they do need to be brought along with the children. I don’t know anyone that has young children that hasn’t had a good Vishala with them. It seems like any of the puppies that I saw when they go into family homes they seem to do very, very well. The upkeep is nothing. When I had a swimming pool, I used to before I’d go to the dog shows, I just throw the dogs in the pool and let them dry off—on the weight of the dog show so that’s the best ones for me because I don’t like to have to maintain a lot of coat. They are fun dog. They are always up for it. They want to play with the ball. They just want to do stuff and mostly, they just want to be with you.
