Veronica Hill: the word’s most beloved theme park, trying more than 15 million guests per year. Welcome to Disneyland California.
Since 1955, this anahyme themed park has captivated the world with its endearing characters, magical attractions and fun family atmosphere. You know going to Disneyland is one of our favorite things to do with our family. So today, we’re going to take you to a tour of the Disneyland resort and share some of our favorite Disneyland tips with you.
Disneyland is home to eight different lands spread across 85 acres. Wear your best walking shoes and be sure to pack extra water and sunscreen. If you live in southern California, it’s worth your while to buy the annual pass instead of the Disneyland tickets. It pays for itself after only three visits. And if you live out of the area, the deluxe annual passport pays for itself after four visits.
Main Street USA, located at the park entrance, is a cluster of old time shops and restaurants modeled after Walt’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri. You can pop into the Magic shop for some fun amusement or have you fortune told by Esmeralda, a fixture in the arcade since opening day.
Jason Hill: Little old secret here at the park is at the market house to refill your coffee throughout the day as long as you keep your receipt.
Veronica Hill: From Main Street, you can have several different directions. Be sure to ride the most popular attractions first as they usually have the longest lines. Always try to use Disneyland’s Fastpass service. What you do is put your ticket into the machine and you’ll get a stab that says what time to return then you get to cut in front of the line.
Splash Mountain, located at the Critter country, is one of the hottest attractions during the summer. Ask for a seat in the front row where you’re guaranteed to get wet. If you have an iPhone, consider downloading one of the many free Disneyland apps on iTunes. A lot of them have up to the minute information on the actual wait time. Those without web access can check the guest information board, located outside the entrance to Adventure Land. This is a good place to find out the next Disneyland parade show times or check in about Disneyland character appearances. Disneyland is home to several decent restaurants and most offer discounts to pass holders.
Jason Hill: Many Disneyland restaurants cater to special dietary needs, whether you’re big in culture or gluten free. Stop at city hall when you arrive or call ahead to Disneyland fine dining and they’ll be happy to check you out.
Veronica Hill: The tiki room, home to Walt Disney’s singing birds, is a great place to cool off during the summer months. And there’s really a wait longer for 10 minutes.
Jason Hill: When you’re in Disneyland, you’ve to stop and try this unique treat, it’s a Dole pineapple whip right outside the tiki room.
Veronica Hill: To spice up your visit, consider looking for some of the hidden Mickey’s. They’re literally all over the place; you just have to look closely. If you need help, you can pick up a copy of the hidden Mickey’s field guide by Steven Barrett. I spotted two Mickey’s on the Pirates of the Caribbean. You’ll see one on the lower left of Davey Jone’s hat and another in a gold shield mounted on the wall. Most of the attractions inside Disneyland are for all ages but there are a few exceptions.
Jason Hill: Do you have small children that don’t meet the height requirement on certain rides, take advantage to the Rider Switch pass.
Veronica Hill: It’s good for two people to go back on the ride either through the exit or the Fastpass line once the rest of your party comes back. One of our favorite thrill rides is Matterhorn, modeled after the Switzerland’s famous mountain peak. Since 1959, this rocky roller coaster has been a major crowd pleaser with quick moving bob sleds that traverse to icy caves and glaciers. Fantasy land modeled after a Bavarian village is home to charming King Arthur’s carousel and mad hatter’s spinning tea cups. A little known secret is that the queen sometimes appears at the window above the Snow White attraction.
Jason Hill: If you want a great spot to see the Disneyland fireworks, grab a seat in front of the Sleeping Beauty castle a few hours before show time.
Veronica Hill: Inside the Disneyland castle, you’ll find Walt Disney’s code of arms and the charming Snow White’s grado or you can make a wish on the wishing well. Disneyland is magical all year round but it especially shines during the Christmas season. This is when you’ll find the haunted mansion holidays starring the wildly popular Jack Skellington and the endearing it’s a small world holiday attraction. Over in Frontier land, you just may spot Santa’s reindeer.
