Visit Haleakala Visitor Center

Hawaii, the Islands of Aloha.

When I think of the color yellow, I think of children seeing sunrise and reaching out to the sun and giggling. Haleakala is a place to go hiking, a place to challenge yourself, a place to renew your spirit. Haleakala literally translates to house of the sun. Sunrise up here can be all white because the clouds come to caress you. There are other mornings where the edge of the cloud turns liquid gold, then it changes to watermelon and peach, any color goes.

I have been home now 17 years and I have not seen the same sunrise yet. Some people come up here and you watch them at the moment of sunrise and they will be reaching out to make sure that there are other people around them, because they feel as though they are the only ones here.
