Visit Sithonia in Chalkidiki, Greece

The village called Sarti was given its name by the ancient Sart that was the estate of the Xeropotamou monastery on Mount Athos located east of the beach. The current Sarti was built and renovated by refugees. The uninhabited forested coast was reshaped and cultivated. Vineyards were planted and ships were set afloat. Seeing the result, we can stay that this scenic place was worth the effort. The village stretching along the sea is an ideal place for recreation. Near the village beautiful scenes keep changing, sandy bays both big and small, hidden white cliffs, gently caressing azure blue seas. Local hospitality and trade also pamper tourists who visit the place. When night falls, beaches become empty and hundreds of tourists overrun the town shops and eateries. We can taste tradition Greek food such as gyros, tsatsiki, domares, keftedes and of course the local drinks, ouzo, metaxa and retsina. The last one is the famous Greek resinous wine. It’s aged in barrels made of pine from which the resin seeps into the wine.
